The first steps have been taken and work has begun on creating the Spadina subway extension into York Region.
On Friday morning in Downsview Park, at the site of what will become Sheppard West Station, the first of four tunnel boring machines that will be used in the $2.6 billion operation was unveiled. "Holey," as it's known, won't actually start boring until early July though. There is still some preparatory work to do.
The next machine to be implemented in the near future is "Moley." Later this summer, two more, named "Torkie" and "Yorkie" will be put into operation further up the line at Steeles West Station, northwest of York University.
It will be a long process. The machines bore at an average pace of about one metre per hour.
Expected to finish in late 2015, the work will extend the Spadina subway line all the way up to the Vaughan Corporate Centre at Jane & Highway 7.

i knew about york u subway but didnt know it was being extended to hw7. i wish it would go further north than that though, hopefully finsh station gets extended north in my lifetime :/ |

dude we have the worst subway system out of any major city in the world.

| not only do we need extension of the current lines, but we need more lines in general {Eglinton, Queen, Steeles] in and out of the city. And we need better upkeep on what we already have. The TTC is so hurting..... |

they need a downtown relief line before that. the overcrowding on the yonge line during rush hour is already too much. |
