Which Religion... all religions? Would having no religions result in no segregation? Could one not argue that religion also has the power to unite peoples? I would argue so, as every Friday people from all over the world of differing cultural backgrounds, races, nationalities, all gather at mosques to say the same prayers. Every Sunday the same is done at Catholic Churches across the globe... heck they even all read the same stories and sing the same psalms... EVERY WEEK... sounds like a lot of uniformity rather then segregation. Irrespective of this; are you contending that religion is the only segregating factor? How does that explain war between peoples of the same faith? Would all conflict end without religion... if so how?

Really? So far very few structured governments have ever tried such a thing and none have ever succeeded. With this in mind please explain how it is reasonable to contend that they have the ability to (assuming they have the will, which does not seem to be the case in most instances) destroy groups that are not to their liking? If they do then why have all attempts failed? If all past attempts have failed then do they really have "total power?"

Oddly, most analysts would argue the exact opposite... that terrorism while often using the name of one religion or another is rarely about religion; certainly the current scourge of "islamic terror" is nearly entirely motivated by political ambitions rather then faith. That said, even if it were terror to promot a religion then the war against it would be a war against religion... which is more in keeping with your initial position, no? So what you're really arguing if you continue with this is that the war to end religion or abolish religion is more likely to be the cause of the extinction of the human species then would be tolerance of religion, no? |
