Anyone tried Chantix?

So I'm starting Chantix tomorrow to help quit smoking...
It came at the recommendation of my doctor and after leaving his office and hearing his opinions, I was feeling pretty good about it...
I've since done a bit of research online and it seems to be double edged sword. Works really well for some people, but has horrible side effects for others. Anyone tried it here? Advice? |

Lauren did the program last year.
The only side effect she had was vivid dreams which isn't too bad I guess. However she did stop smoking and fairly quickly too. She has been smoke free since May 2010 :)
well tobacco atleast :) |

I'll be honest that part of it did make me skeptical. I did some reading and found that people complained of those side effects but luckily that part of it didn't really affect her.
I will second that "good luck"
rock it out. |

| whatever happened to just raw willpower? Has everyone forgotten that you can decide when and where to quit? Taking drugs I feel is a risk just to quit something you can do yourself. |

While I agree with you and that would really be the BEST way to do it, Champax is a proven clinical method. It really comes down to the individual who is trying to quit because in the end only they know how much willpower they would have.
I tried sneaking a few of my Dad's ciggs when I was 12 or 13 and hated it beyond belief. Never smoked again...well except for 1 night at Guv when someone handed me a cigarette a few years ago. Not quite sure why I said yes...but i hated myself for months after just for a sake of a few drags. |

It worked wonders for me. The only side effects I remember were vivid dreams and mild nausea if I took it on an empty stomach. Don't take one if you're hungover too, I learned the hard way.
I understand how some people disagree with taking drugs for this, but what's worse, taking champix for a few months, or perpetually trying to quit on your own and never quitting? This drug is way different than any other smoking cessation drug out there. It actually makes cigarettes taste bad, and completely takes away your cravings, even while drinking.
I highly recommend it to anyone who has tried quitting every other way and failed. |

Quit-smoking drug under review
Champix study finds slightly higher risk of heart-related incidents
CBC News Posted: Jun 27, 2011 5:11 PM ET Last Updated: Jun 27, 2011 6:02 PM ET Back to accessibility links
Smokers with questions about Champix should talk to their doctors, Health Canada suggests.
Champix, a medication prescribed to smokers who are trying to quit, is under review by Health Canada after a U.S. study found the drug might cause heart-related side-effects.
In a news release Monday, Health Canada said it is evaluating the U.S. study and other information about Champix and “will take appropriate action” depending on the results.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said a study involving 700 smokers with cardiovascular disease found that Champix might put them at slightly higher risk of “certain cardiovascular events,” including heart attack.
Health Canada said this higher risk is two per cent, compared with one per cent for smokers not taking the drug. |
