Is that insulting to call a female British bartender a bar maid? There's a British-style pub near me that imports all of their employees through some exchange program in England, and I've heard them called bar maids many times and it always seemed like it would be insulting to me. | the old toad? |

Not at all, it's what their profession is called in the UK and not insulting in the slightest.
I didn't realise it was conidered insulting outside of the UK |

srussel just has to complain about something.
'Barmaid' sounds quite festive to me, personally.
Barmaid = Waitress at a bar.
Bartender = Does not denote a particular gender and is the person who makes the drinks. |

It might not be, it just seemed like it to me. They're always called bartenders here, so calling them a "maid" seemed kind of insulting, as maids would usually be considered lower class citizens. |

We call them barmaids here too, and they only seem to be insulted by the term if i add the word whore. |
