wrong. Jimmy Carter had the top marginal rate at 75%... Reagan lowered it to 25% and we instantly saw 9% GDP growth and an economic explosion for the next several years. Of course there's a lot more to it, but the point is that our economy was in major stagnation with sickening tax rates in the late 70s, and all that changed soon after Carter's failed policies were ousted.

Yes, its often surprising to people that after a downturn, the economy picks up again isnt it. We can come back to this discussion at a later time, as i havent put in nearly as much research a proper discussion on monetary policy requires.

On the religious zealot thing... I'm a lot less worried about the creationism boogey man than I am about the muslims who do, you know, actual physical damage by murdering or attempting to murder people due to religious ideology. If you want to stand up against religious zealotry, why not instead discuss the muslims who were arrested 2 days ago for attempting to blow up a military recruitment center with a daycare inside in Seattle? |
Dude...seriously...in all my posts did i ever give you an impression that i thoroughly despise (fundamentalist) christians, but am willing to jump in bed with the musilims? Why do i have to choose which side to be against, cant i be against both? Also, let us not pretend, that christians arent above killing a few people in the name of god themselves, or that you would be ok if bauchman was a muslim fundamentalist and decided to run for presidency and decided to impose her muslim beliefs upon the country.
If i were you, i would be a lot more worried about christians, because whatever a bunch of silly mulims decide to do, it will be a localised event. It will hurt the people immediately affected by it and hats abou that, nobody else will feel the pain.
With a fundie in charge of the country is not a localised event it effects everybody. It effects education (stupid science going against god, kids dont need science!), it effects health care (no abortion for you you slutty girl, god doesnt approve of it, it was your own fault you got raped) it effects research (do i even need to provide an example here)...not a pleasant prospect for the future.
P.S.
I apologise for the spelling, im in bed, half asleep and typing on the phone |

| quote: | In Waterloo, Iowa on the eve of her official presidential campaign announcement, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) told Fox News that she has "the spirit" of John Wayne.
The presidential hopeful -- who was born and grew up in Waterloo as a child before moving to Minnesota -- said, "Well, what I want them to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That's the kind of spirit that I have, too."
The Washington Times points out one slight problem with the Tea Party favorite's remarks: The John Wayne with roots in Waterloo is John Wayne Gacy, a serial killer who was executed by lethal injection in 1994 after being convicted of 33 murders.
John Wayne -- the late movie star, director and producer -- was born in Winterset, Iowa, but appears to have no specific connection to Waterloo. |

are you joking? I have read plenty of stuff, and heard many of them talk about point-by-point methods on how they would revive the economy. I'm not going to search for links for you on that. |
Besides the Ryan plan? That was a piece of .
Or do you just mean a point-by-point detailed
1. Cut taxes
2. Cut more taxes
3. Cut entitlements
4. Cut spending
Since those are the only two plans I ever see Republicans talking about.
You know, I lean left, but I'm not on the far left by any means. Obama has disappointed me in many ways and I watched the Republican CNN debate to see if, honestly, any of them would impress me. Let's just say I was disappointed. All they do is attack the president, attack health care reform, say they will not allow abortions or gay marriage, and kiss the ass of the tea party. It was pathetically sad how Romney seemed the most reasonable choice after the debate.
Why is it so hard to comprehend that you can't just ing keep cutting taxes? To solve this problem we need to raise taxes, reform entitlements, and cut spending. And using the debt ceiling as a bargaining chip is pathetic. It goes against the god damn Constitution for 's sake.
Also: Bachman. She IS crazy and stupid. Creationist = end of story.
Honestly, Kev, what is your opinion about the main Republican candidates right now? Because they all scare me. |

I mean, how can you possibly like this woman and want her in office? She's like Sarah Palin 2.0.

1 true statement out of 26. Pretty good numbers there.
She says this:
| quote: | | Bachmann: I would say, what I would say is that the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look -- I wish they would. I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out, are they pro-America or anti-America? I think the people would love to see an expose like that. |
Then denies it.
| quote: | Colmes: You said you were concerned during the campaign that Obama had anti American views and you said the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look at the people and find out, are they pro-America or anti-America
Bachmann: Actually that's not what I said. It's an urban legend that was created and that's not what I said.
Colmes: I have the tape at my website Alan.com
Bachmann: What I called on Alan was for the main stream media to do their job. They failed to vet Barack Obama the way they had John McCain. That's what I was called for.
Colmes: I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out, are they pro-America or anti-America. Do you really want...
Bachmann: What I said was that I'm not qualified to say whether members views are pro or anti American. That's not my job to do. |
Step 1: Lie your ass off.
Step 2: Hope media doesn't call you on it (if yes, go to step 3, if no, repeat step 1)
Step 3: Change the subject and just talk about what you want to talk about.
Step 4: Whine about liberals in the media gunning for you.
Step 5: Repeat step 1
(Anthony Weiner should probably not have followed those steps :p)
Here's my favorite Bachmann quotes against homosexuality:
| quote: |
- “It’s part of Satan I think to say that this is “gay.” It’s anything but gay.” — Senator Michele Bachmann, speaking at EdWatch National Education Conference, November 6, 2004.
- “If you’re involved in the gay and lesbian lifestyle, it’s bondage. It is personal bondage, personal despair and personal enslavement.” — Senator Michele Bachmann, speaking at EdWatch National Education Conference, November 6, 2004.
- “You have a teacher talking about his gayness. (The elementary school student) goes home then and says “Mom! What’s gayness? We had a teacher talking about this today.” The mother says “Well, that’s when a man likes other men, and they don’t like girls.” The boy’s eight. He’s thinking, “Hmm. I don’t like girls. I like boys. Maybe I’m gay.” And you think, “Oh, that’s, that’s way out there. The kid isn’t gonna think that.” Are you kidding? That happens all the time. You don’t think that this is intentional, the message that’s being given to these kids? That’s child abuse.” — Senator Michele Bachmann, speaking at EdWatch National Education Conference, November 6, 2004.
- “Don’t misunderstand. I am not here bashing people who are homosexuals, who are lesbians, who are bisexual, who are transgender. We need to have profound compassion for people who are dealing with the very real issue of sexual dysfunction in their life and sexual identity disorders.” — Senator Michele Bachmann, on homosexuality as a mental disorder, speaking at EdWatch National Education Conference, November 6, 2004.
- “It isn’t that some gay will get some rights. It’s that everyone else in our state will lose rights. For instance, parents will lose the right to protect and direct the upbringing of their children. Because our K-12 public school system, of which ninety per cent of all youth are in the public school system, they will be required to learn that homosexuality is normal, equal and perhaps you should try it. And that will occur immediately, that all schools will begin teaching homosexuality.” – Senator Michele Bachmann, on what will happen if her same-sex marriage ban amendment fails to pass in 2004, appearing as guest on radio program “Prophetic Views Behind The News,” hosted by Jan Markell, KKMS 980-AM, March 6, 2004
- “This is a very serious matter, because it is our children who are the prize for this community, they are specifically targeting our children.” — Senator Michele Bachmann, on the gay community and same-sex marriage, appearing as guest on radio program “Prophetic Views Behind The News”, hosted by Jan Markell, KKMS 980-AM, March 20, 2004.
- “The sex curriculum will be essentially by taught by the local gay community.” — Senator Michele Bachmann, if her same-sex marriage ban amendment does not pass in 2004, appearing as guest on radio program “Prophetic Views Behind The News”, hosted by Jan Markell, KKMS 980-AM, March 20, 2004.
- “And what a bizarre time we’re in, Jan, when a judge will say to little children that you can’t say the pledge of allegiance, but you must learn that homosexuality is normal and you should try it.” — Senator Michele Bachmann, appearing as guest on radio program “Prophetic Views Behind The News”, hosted by Jan Markell, KKMS 980-AM, March 6, 2004.
- “Our children will be forced to learn that homosexuality is normal and natural and that perhaps they should try it, and that’ll be very soon in our public schools all across the state, beginning in kindergarten.” — Senator Michele Bachmann, appearing as guest on radio program “Prophetic Views Behind The News”, hosted by Jan Markell, KKMS 980-AM, March 6, 2004.
- “We are wide open and vulnerable and in all likelihood an activist judge will strike down our Defense of Marriage Act, our state law against gay marriage, this year. And in all likelihood, we will have gay marriage in 2004 in Minnesota , if we don’t get this amendment on the ballot for November.” — Senator Michele Bachmann, appearing as guest on radio program “Prophetic Views Behind The News”, hosted by Jan Markell, KKMS 980-AM, March 20, 2004.
