| My wife and I had VIP tix fall into our lap Saturday afternoon (thanks Silvia!). We didn't make it to the the party til Sunday. I was blown away by the production, though the music was utterly horrendous at every stage. I was truly impressed by the sheer magnitude of everything. The sound quality was pretty good and I was pleased that there was no sound bleeding between stages. I only stayed for about 2 hours, which was more than enough considering the lack of good music ;) |

The carnival side of edc was amazing. Alot of Dj's could have planned their set/ show better but others completley killed it.
Mainstage sucked, sound was crappy, was way smaller than collisium and lack of seating made it another neon garden type stage..
I could have just been mad because i head too much top 40.
My friends couldnt get in till 4 hours later becuase there vip purchase wasnt loaded onto their card!!
vip looked like crap and they didnt get free food and water like they were promised.
missed collisium type seating alot. especially when you just want to chill out and watch everything go down.
Lines to leave the raceway at 5-6am friday was horrendous.
night time temps were fine, art installtions, dancers and performers were just fantastic.
I wont be attending EDC again. I liked it when it was more about the music. I'll try something else. |

The Good: Overall a more mature crowd, I talked to a few cab drivers who dropped people off over the weekend and most said the average age was probably around 20-30. The production was incredible on all the stages. I originally thought the main stage was a bit smaller (or so it seemed), but I feel that they might have done that because they wanted us to check out the production at the other stages. I really enjoyed all the little touches Insomniac added, such as the sky divers and fireworks show. The event was run very smoothly, only problem I ran into was leaving the place on sunday, but of course that was expected. Police there were friendly and helpful, I talked to a couple of them and most of them were surprised at how tame things were, considering all the bad press this event has received leading up to it. While I was skeptical of having this event in Vegas (mostly due to the costs), it turned out to be a huge plus. It really weeded out a lot of the cholo ravers and other Socal scum that pollute events. I wouldn't say the crowd was perfect by any means, but it was a nice change of scenery.
The Bad: No huge complaints other than the lineup taking forever to be released. Met a group of people from the UK who said they had more friends who would have come had the lineup been released earlier. In terms of the music, to be honest, no one blew me away, but its not to say that the music wasn't bad. I think its because I've seen most of the DJs or listened to their recent sets which made things predictable.
The only thing that really annoyed me at the event were the retards working the Heineken beverage booths. Did Insomniac decide to employ the handicapped or something? I approached the booth the first night, and ordered a drink, a redbull and vodka and I guess my pupils must have been pretty dilated because she asked if I was "alright." I told her I was fine and just wanted my drink, so she went back to make it, and I guess she must've not followed the procedure correctly (although I don't know how much easier mixing a red bull and vodka can get) because her superior gave her a lecture, delaying my drink even more. She finally brings me my drink, I give her the money, and she screws up counting the change. I then tell her, "I think you're the one who's on something" take my drink, and leave. Now this could have been an honest mistake, but several more times throughout the weekend things like this occurred. At least they didn't ask me to tip them like the workers at Beyond did.
Will I be back next year? I will definitely consider going back, I just need to learn how to pace myself first, three days is a long time to party. But I must give props to Insomniac. I know there were a lot of people out there who wanted to see this event fail, but they did a fantastic job pulling it off. |

The bad part 2:
Although the main stage was massive, I think I liked last years better because you could see the DJ. If you look at Rukes's pics from day 1, you can see how hard it to see who's playing if you are not really close to the stage. There were so many little screens behind the DJ instead of one big LED screen like last year or at Beyond Wonderland so it made the DJ table area look dark. They had the screens on the sides of the main stage, but they were pretty small compared to the rest of the overpowering lighting so it was hard to see even when they had the DJ showing on those screens as well.
One weird thing was that there were no 21 and over wristbands and you had to show your ID every time you got a drink. I would think that would make it easier for underage people to drink since any 21 year old could buy 2 drinks and give the 2nd one to anyone. Not sure why they changed that. |

Went all three days.
Best large scale-event I have ever been too. Can't think if a better location to have an event like this. Everything was spread out nice, and each Stage was truly independent, this really allowed each experience to be it's own.
Overall, getting in and out on Friday sucked! nightmare. The End, get over it.
I was fully satisfied with Kinetic Field on Friday and that was all wanted. I kept hearing people complain about the sound, but I thought it was great, Not distorted and loud. Food/Drink was easy to access and I don't see anything free.
Bathrooms areas needed a handwash area, can't imagine what was on peoples hands all night.
The start and end times were perfect, couldn't be better.
Sunday upgraded to VIP and that was the best decision I made all weekend. So SO SOOOOO much better. I don't drink, so not having "Free Drinks" doesn't matter to me. But having way cooler and nicer people and more space, able to see EVERYTHING, clean bathrooms with sinks and attendants. Hot girls banging themselves to Wolfgang Gartner, I mean what more can you ask for. I got lucky and only had to spend $40 for vip. So I guess that made it nice too.
The DJ's spun exactly as I would have expected them to, so no surprise and I got what I wanted out of it. The sound was great everywhere, BUT alot of DJ's don't know about levels and clipping, one guy would be fine then the next one was distorted as hell and I had to get out of there. Laidback Luke and Dada Life being 2 of them who should hire somebody to make sure they don't sound like .
Bring a face mask or something, because the dust will get you
Hawtin was awesome, and haven't felt that animalistic side of me since WMC 2005
Best idea was packing a cooler and leaving it in the car, had amazing refreshing drinks ready to go.
Still don't know how I am going to work tomorrow, but thats another story...
All in all I think Insomniac finally got their together, because I used to hate going to their events because of the huge cluster it always was. So, Props for taking the feedback and making it better. Great Location! I don't see them moving it for quite some time.
Already planning for next year. |
