| I thought dogs could smell cancer. Maybe Nou can weigh in on this with a possible tie in to bomb sniffing dogs and such. |

Getting more diagnostic tests is always a good thing, especially a guided needle biopsy. The ultrasound report is just all medical jargon. Generally speaking all radiologist reports should have a summary at the end stating what was found. Positive for you it's a cyst and an added bonus is that no lymph nodes are involved.

So far, it can be anything from a simple or complicated infection to a lateral neck cyst or even a Hodgkin's lymphoma. The majority of diagnosis, even most malignant tumors in this region, can be treated quite well. |
If it was lymphoma, he would have positive lymph nodes. |

Not if the "lump" wasn`t recognized as a lymphatic node(which it maybe was) itself. Indeed, chances for such an ultrasound-guided misdiagnosis are quite low but it still happens. |

Yeah, it's the kind played with tennis racquets on a tennis court. It's been around since the 1500s, perhaps you've heard of it. |
Yeah right, the kind of tennis you play been around for much longer. It was invented right after pants started having front pockets. |

Sounds like an infection if they say it isn't in your thyroid. There are a lot of lymph nodes in the neck though and they can become enlarged due to localized infections. Hopefully it is just an infection in or around the node and not something malignant.
Sudden onset of fever and the appearance of a lump seems like it would be an infection.
Glad its not me. |

There was no lymphadenopathy within the neck.
that means its not a lymphnode. it breaks down to either a cyst or a tumor. :/
kinda waiting around for my ct scan and biopsy. Canadian health care system blows, On my requisition form for my diagnostics to be done they wrtoe "Emergency, Cancer! Please deal with ASAP" I got a call back from diagnostics "hey we put you on our emergency list you're appointment is sept 14th" I replied "you know it said for a biopsy not for an autopsy, right?"
3 months is ridiculous. trying to pull strings as I type this to get an earlier date.
Edit: also just to clarify the lump is no where near my thyroid, the type of ultra sound was called a thyroid ultrasound. they did check the thyroid and it was fine, they then went to the lump to check it out. Also the lump appeared for 4 weeks ago, fever happened last weekend. don't know if they were correlated but im guessing they are. |

ya i kinda figured that but then i got to act like im hurt and thats kinda what ruins our system to begin with. I feel much better getting some of my M.D friends to pull strings. I got an MRI in 45 mins before i'm sure i can pull off a ct scan and biopsy too. |
