It slightly differs from the previous SlimX model, not much of a change, really.

1. looks like a cheap and ty GPX player or something + it's not even round

2. the way the remote gets connected - very very inconvenient

but i do like the remote and how both wires go the same way

Think I should stick up for MiniDisc here :)

I've had the Sony MZR-500 for about 9 months now, never had any problems with it whatsoever.

Don't believe the 5 hours of music thing, that's at about 64kb quality (ie not for music). But you will get 2 1/2 hours of good quality music. The battery lasts for ages (like 2 weeks from one AA), it's never skipped even when I'm running, it fits nice and small into your pocket, u have a funky remote to clip to a belt/pocket/whatever...

Nice little piece of gadgetry :)

Another nifty feature is the resume .. basically if u switch the unit off, it will start again in the exact same spot - VERY HANDY for a 2 hour live set. But you can add track markings, move the tracks around, edit out crappy parts if you want - try doing that with your $1000 mp3 players :P

The only thing I don't like about it is that you have to record the tracks in real time, just like a cassette. So it takes 2 hours to transfer a 2 hour live set from PC to MD :( I usually do my transfers overnight...

It's real , the only privelege is it's small...stil doesn't beat it...Get informed people b4 starting flame wars over yer own lack of knowledge on what's on the market.

For an alternative to the SlimX, you might want to check out the ChromeX, made by the same company (iRiver):

The display is a nice blue backlit LCD, and comes with a nice remote too. I'm planning on ordering one of these soon.

LOL!

In 2 years everyone will be wanting hard drive systems. They will be tired playing with cds, messing with external batteries, and tired of lugging around the bulky (YES BULKY) cd players that skip no matter what they say about how good the protection is.

Speaking of getting informed check the iPod Specs out: http://www.apple.com/ipod/

And yeah i can have about 1000 songs on my 10 gig iPod and yes i can't possibly listen to it all. But what i got is music for all occasions a few comedy sets and bunch of live sets so I'm never bored with what i got.

iPod is HANDS down the winner!

So if you have the cash go for it!

Welcome to the future NOW!

there's also iRiver IMP200 or sumfn, it's very similar to riovolt (actually, it's the same shape + the same remote, only with an lcd screen). the only thing is that it is MUCH better than the ty riovolt.

and the bad thing is that you can't get it in the states, caz they have some market problems or some stuff like that.

Why CAN'T you get it in US? Get it online at an import shop or go to an Asian community in New York City, Los Angeles, or San Francisco - You'll DEFINITELY find it there! My uncle gets all of his Japanese/Asian electronics in NYC and has no problem with it. Plus, it's cheaper there.

hey all!

i have an iriver slimx player....its worked wonders!! until today, that is...it doesnt seem to run magik 6 fresh out of the case....which happenss to work on my PS2 and my comp.hmm...(anyone wanna help? lol)

anyway, the big downside to the slimx (relatively big., whatever) is that hiss on the output, which can be done away with by using high imepadance phones. btw, one super, undocumented upside to the slimX is its high headphone output (i think like 12mW x 2), in contrast to most modern MD players.

score? 9.9/10 (missing that point because of its inability to f00kin run magik 6)
