Myself and the Mrs. were there on Saturday night. The way U2 can unite a crowd of that magnitude just blows my mind. Such an amazing concert... probably the best one I've been to, to date. The vibe at that venue was through the sky. The moon peeking out over the crowd through the moving clouds and smoke machines... magical moments were shared that evening...
i must also commend the Police and Metro service. I was not looking forward to heading back after the show - huge mobbing crowds get to me really bad sometimes - and the way they kept the flow of traffic moving safely, I was truly impressed. We were back downtown to our hotel within an hour.
another fantastic weekeend in Montreal. |

you can put glitter on .......
It was good but not amazing- I saw the 360 show 2 months ago... I bet interpol was the highlight of the show musically (they were awesome at metropolis a couple months ago). When i saw them they had Muse opening up for them
hardly life changing concert though, or your life is pretty shallow hah.... although i heard they only played hold me thrill me kiss me kill me day 1 which is for me the only u2 song worth listening to... i got free tickets as well when i saw them but would never in my life have forked over the kind of cash they wanted for them.... |

The thing is though is that he is right to an extent. Any one of the "biggest bands in the world" regardless of generation has been average at best musically. I mean they make catchy music that people like, but it is never complex or really forward thinking.
There isn't one band in the world that does that kind of music that can draw 160 000 people in 2 days. Osheaga has a ton of amazing bands at a fraction of the price, yet they don't even come remotely close to generating the buzz or attendance that U2 does.
Greg might have been going expecting a totally different thing. u2 makes big stadium music. To put it into electronic music terms it is the big room sound vs small room sound argument.
You want a great musical experience? Go see a band like Dream Theater at Bell Center in front of maybe 7k. It will be a life changing experience, but you just don't tend to remember it quite the same way as a massive concert like the ones you used to see on TV as a kid that made you want to be a rock star.
From the parts of the show I was able to catch, it went over really well. You don't get 80 000 people singing every chorus by trying to musically educate them. |

| Irish Tiesto imo. |

Ah the cult of complexity and forward thinking...ed...ness.
Not everything has to be a revolution. Instead of pushing boundaries, I'm totally down with exploring the area we've already mapped out. In the end, if it sounds good, that's all that matters. Whether a sound is from 100 years ago or won't catch on for a millennium. Doesn't matter.
I've never been a big U2 fan, but I respect their earlier stuff more. Still, I rarely hear anyone say they put on anything less than an amazing show. |

The Joshua Tree was actually one of the better albums to come out of the 80's considering how horrible some of the synth new wave fecal piano tie pop was around at the time:p
Rock Lobster still wins. |

many of these supergroups, artists peaked musically years, decades long ago, I think U2 is no different, kinda like many of our edm legends too. Imo
Edge's guitar rifts with Bono's delivery was definetly distinctively different/fresh/revolutionary, what ever you wanna call it than stuff heard before.
Irish Tiesto is a harsh comparison :p but certainly their heyday was awhie ago, imo. |
