funny that you post that clip... Dirty Mac was a group composed of Winston Leg-Thigh aka John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix is drummer)... for the Rolling Stones' Rock n Roll Circus... lol

btw clapton is responsible for all this thread. :p
he's the one who brought sunny boy williamson in england and toured with him with the Yardbirds in 1963. Who inspired all the guitarists of all the groups you guys named. Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Pink Floyd, etc...
Clapton left the Yardbirds being pissed that they becamed commercial with "For Your Love"... he recommended Jimmy Page to replace him...
in 1966, Eric Clapton formed the first "Jam band" with 20+ minute tracks, the group Cream... which is still considered as the first Super Rock band or first Power band... For many they are also the origin of heavy metal.
The Yardbirds became Led Zeppelin few years later (1968) with the band splitting up but Page and manager Peter Grant had contracts for shows to furfilled in scandinavia with the yardbirds so they formed a new group... The New Yardbirds which became Led Zeppelin following a joke by Keith Moon from the Who, who said that the new yardbirds will fall like a Lead Zeppelin, so he wouldn't leave the Who for them.
So yeah Eric Clapton is the most underrated artist of all the British Invasion to me, he created it in a way, with his influence and taste for blues.
edit: Stones & Beatles = NKOTBSB version '65 lol only thing is they got so popular with time that they were able to push their own stuff rather than the commercial cover stuff they usually did.
Eric Clapton married a Van Island girl, not too far from where Pamela Anderson grew up, who married Tommy Lee of Motley Crue who toured with Deadmau5, whom, if you look in the edm dictionary for the term overrated, is pictured. Weird how things work sometimes.
Btw, old school techno sounds like an electronic derivative of African drums, especially if you're on the right candies

Jay you're talking about the rock'n'roll era with a Hard Day's Night album...
albums like Magical Mystery Tour, Abbey Road, Let it Be and Sgt. Pepper's are epic classics, musical masterpieces
I did and I will until the end of time. Overrated does not mean bad. Overrated means that they do not live up to the hype that the nostalgic old farts that grew up with them pushed on us.
Can you read music mbf? If you can, you would notice that the music from any of those other albums you mention could have been written by a 6 year old. I would go so far to say that if you put the sheet music beside the sheet music from a collection of mother goose fable songs they would be pretty similar other than the lyrics.
They still made music i would and occasionally listen to, stuff that gets you humming or tapping your feet but absolutely devoid of any substance...kinda like Britney Spears. They were the original boy band....with 2 talented musicians, 2 seat fillers and later on a studio wizard that was the "silent beatle" making painfully ordinary music that happened to sell well.....kinda like the posters of them on every teenage girl's wall in the world.
Marketing is not only a modern term you know. Back in those days, before "payola" (essentially bribing people to only play certain records on the radio) was made illegal you could impose a huge hype machine on the public much easier than today due to the more limited ways of consuming media and how it was controlled.

Dude. It's rock and roll, not Mozart.
The Beatles did extremely well for a bunch of guys who only learned how to read music halfway through their careers.
Not to mention all the wicked tunes they released after being taught piano and stuff.
They were trend setters, and they'll live on for many years to come.

That's fine, that does not mean that they aren't over rated. why are a ton of other acts from that generation able to do something more than that within the same genre?
Dude, they didn't invent their style. They were the trend, they didn't set it;)
Why do you think John spent his later years recording him and Yoko farting? Because he was sick of making paint by numbers garbage...this is not my opinion, but by his own admission.
Alex
I disagree.
You don't need to invent something to be the best at it, or perfect it.
In my opinion there is pre-Beatles and post-Beatles.
McCartney didn't become the most successful musician on earth by being unoriginal.
But hey, music is subjective after all. One person hears the Beatles and pulls out his zippo, the next guy can't figure it out.:)

Lennon tried too hard to be original.
There is a way to be original within a pre-existing mold. It's like those videos that people get pissed about. You know the ones, where they play the same four chords and point out how many songs use those 4 chords? People forget, there are about a million ways to manipulate those 4 chords into "original" sounding material.
