I'm looking for an apartment - I've just been perusing listings on craigs. Do you guys have any advice for a better way to go about this / other means I should look into?

Thanks

The $60 is worth it. I used WestSideRentals.com to find my current place. I would not rely on Craigslist actually. You will find a lot of unreliable deals there, and not as many listings on there.

Definitely worth the $60 to find you a good apartment. Agreed CL is flaky.

other side of that coin is this - i'm a student, need to live relatively close to lmu (walking / biking distance), and my price range isn't exactly 'expansive'. Do you think westsiderentals would cater to me? By that I mean - will I have trouble finding listings under 1400 or something like that on there?

Right now I'm pretty much hoping to find something better but have a fall back option of renting a studio in an apartment complex at ~1250.

I stopped using pay services for new places in the early 2000s and ahve used Craigslist since. KNow what? No complaints. Never had one issue finding a good place in an area i liked.

try looking at Mar Vista area. It's about 4 miles from LMU (bikeable) and rent prices are generally cheaper here than other parts of West LA.

Have you tried driving around the area you would like to live at and stop by a few places to get quotes? Not everyone advertises online and that way you get to see first hand what the area is like.
