Is it okay to place sounds out of phase on purpose?

There are some cool stereo spread utilities that let you expand the width of sound so far that it goes out of phase. Sometimes it can sound really cool and help you place things in the mix, but yeah if you play it on a mono setup it'll cancel out. Is that really a huge issue though? How many clubs have mono systems these days? I know some producers do this on purpose but I was wondering if this is thought of as a kind of amateurish impractical thing.. |

If the element can phase out in mono without too much trouble to the song then it's okay. As long as the bass and kick are there then all the teens with their skull candy headphones will be alright.
Now that I got that out of the way, try listening to it in mono to find out. |

yes, it is. most clubs (not all) are fed a mono signal and since ideally you have no idea where your track will be played, you should prepare for that. |

Where did you hear this? Is this published somewhere or is this one of those patently false yet oddly persistent rumors like the one about how an undercover cop has to tell you they're a cop when you ask them; because for them to withhold such information amounts to entrapment. |
