So, I posted this same song, a couple of days ago, and was a little appalled with how it sounded in the player so I went back and re-did the mix so that it's at least a little closer. I think I've achieved adding a groove element using Reason 5's Groove Mixer and made the rhythm section a little more contiguously related to what other instruments are playing, for starters. I don't feel like I achieved much of the drive that I was going for.
You can hear what it sounds like with no Groove Mixer channels enabled after 6:50 or so. The song gets its title from a pair of cats who get into all sorts of mischief and that's kind of the theme I was trying to capture with the music. I'd definitely appreciate any comments or criticism.

I don't think this is leveled right.. the kick is really punchy. I think if you lowered the volume of the kick and turned everything else up it'd sound a lot better. Love the groove though this is good stuff

Man, that's something I'd been reckoning with for quite a bit, trying to pull it in line, and I finally thought I'd nailed it with this mix, but if you're noticing it, I'll put up a new one with fresh ears, tomorrow afternoon.
Thanks a ton for both the crit and the kudos, though.

Pros:
- I always liked your drums, great again.
- The "flute" and atmospheres starting at 3:00 are very good, I liked the harmony.
Cons:
- I would improve the chord progression, so the sound could go up and down sometimes, I mean, more variation.
:)

Eureka!!
You have no idea how long it's taken for me to finally put together a tune which singles out passive-aggressives and puts them to sleep.
New version up.

ok listened to the majority of this
your kick drum really irks me, it just sounds so floppy and boxy. i really like the mids although the mix isnt that good imo. nice pads and synth-work but ya, like i said. seems like an improvement from the last one i heard from you where i asked if your speakers were blown.

I'm either not hearing my own song impartially enough or everything you hate about it is everything I like. I definitely hear what you're getting at with the boxy kicks. They are as you describe them - floppy and boxy. And I kind of wanted a blurry sound in the mix, but not over-bearing.
Not that you're at all wrong. I'm just not hearing it with your ears, yet. I'll sleep on it, though. :) If you have more specific thoughts on how I can clean up the mix, I'd appreciate it.

Oh, that's not good.
Altec Lansing computer speakers and MDR700 headphones. Far from ideal.
