Have you guys checked out his collab with Four Tet and Thom Yorke?
He apparently went to the same school as Kieran Hebden (Four Tet).
However he makes music, I think Untrue is still of one the most inspiring albums to me.. It breathes a little life into electronic music and serves as a refreshing change from most of what's out there today. |

he seems like a bit of a dick to me... I'm shocked how much he seems to focus on making other people's sounds- Listening to some El-b as well, his percussion is so heavily ripped from there... :o
Bit dissapointing tbh LOL
I'm a big fan of "untrue" though, great album |
I think we can say that for every musician out there, they are heavily influenced by information from the past, and the summation of that information with burial as proxy created a sound like no other. |

Creativity is taking old ideas and turning them into something new. As far as I know, he's doing that. |

He said that he failed trying to recreate EL-B, but he ended up with something much better. |

, that guy has waaaaaaaaay to much time on his hands.
I mean, System-J's stuff, like the Robocop/Jesus essay is a good read, but this just goes way too far.
I'm off to dance about architecture ;) |

| i think he records a lot of random stuff he sees in his day to day life to ...like cars passing by..rain falling etc.. |

Just enjoy the music i say!
For all we know, burial could be some middle aged man who has created a new persona online.
I think it would be fair to say his sampling is at least creative, as he uses it to create a new sound altogether...that sits much more easily with me:) |
Yeah totally, I don't think its unusual, I'm basically a n00b to the field and love burial, and was simply surprised reading about his approach and hearing a lot of el-b tracks (which are outstanding!)
I wasn't meaning to bag him as a musician I was just surprised... but again totally because of my ignorance :)
I really dig both his collaboration tracks with four-tet, and one of the two tracks with four-tet and Thom Yorke is awesome too IMO :)

To an extent yes, but there's a definite line where 'interpretation' is just plagiarism, or at least is just unoriginal... |

If there is one thing we have all laernt about burial and can learn from him, it's that sometimes technical aspects don't mean .
Burial clearly just makes he likes and uses pretty juvenile techniques/eq to do it.
We are all here stressing about over compression on tiny aspects of our track.
I bet burial literally knows all about production really. He just goes by ear.
We might all learn something from that. |

| While that's partly true, he's also a genius at sourcing sounds and picking the ones that fit well together, thinks of amazing leftfield sound sources and has an amazing ability to visualise how a track will come together to form an atmosphere. So I wouldn't say he has "no" production skills at all... He just isn't a dedicated operator of compression machines. |

| He's more about talent than developed skill, I think. He has a distinct and fairly unique vision for where he wants his tracks to go, how he wants them to sound. Something most producers never really develop all that much regardless of how much they upgrade their "chops" in handling instruments, edits, and effects. |
