I can only hope there is some sort of planned 'coup d'état' where once there is enough support for his cause, he overthrows Armin and puts an end to the sugar coated influence Armada has left as a bitter taste on the entire scene. |
Its just not Armin its also Above & Beyond as well. Just look at how awful their tracks have become and the fact that you are not even allowed criticise certain tracks on their forum, otherwise it gets deleted by the mods. I recently got banned for finding a massive flaw on Jono Grant's statement. |

On the ASOT forum, they are people out there who don't consider Psy trance as being trance music LOL |
I don't consider ASOT fans as being Trance fan :toothless |

You don't know how much I agree with you on this point, but I never thought I'd seen it brought up on an EDM message board! |

Askew is one the more credible trance DJs left out there. I remember really liking his Lower The Tone album when it came out, although I haven't listened to it for about five years now.
The trouble I have is that he's now in charge of Perfecto Fluoro, and all this "going back underground", " mainstream trance" rhetoric can't help come across as a marketing gimmick. Especially when his label is putting out electro-house remixes of PPK - ResuRection as part of their "underground" manifesto. And Perfecto Fluoro are distributed by Armada, for 's sake. Way to keep it underground, guys. | I dont really see the problem, who cares about gimmicks, marketing, being distributed through Armada etc.
Its a cool effort in bringing something fresh to the scene, i dont get some people here, whatever happens get critizised except the "minimal-dubstep-tech-house-step" or whatever you guys are listening to, its hardly about the music itself but rather how "underground" or "rare" it truly is.
What about the actual music, is it so hard to judge a piece of music purely for what it is rather than going after everything else that surrounds it?
I hated "Tokyo" but the thought of an Astrix remix of Man With No Name, lets the water run through my mouth. |

My whole point is the actual music is . That ASOT 500 mix from Oakenfold was really underwhelming, after all the hype I read. How the are remixes of 15 year old tracks "bringing something fresh"? And I'm only bringing up how "underground" the music is because John Askew can't shut the up about it, including the interview which thread is about. It's not hard to get your head around.
Perfecto Fluoro 2.0 is no better than the trance labels they're criticising. It's just this marketing blather is making people like me waste time listening to their music, claiming it's something it's not. |

I agree to that.
People turned into label-freaks, or much more label haters. I'm pretty convinced that from all labels I bought cd's in the 90's (e.g. Club Tools, Bonzai, Arcade, Dance Opera..etc) most releases I didn't like at all, and dispite that I still would call these my favorite labels.
I get the feeling that now if someone hears an awesome track and it turns out to be from Armada or a sub-label then suddenly it's not good any more. How stupid is that?
You're right, it's not about the music any more while in the 90's it was all about the music. I didn't give a about the label. I can't remember a single discusion about a label back then, how different that is now. |

They are trying to be fair.
It is clever marketing because they are appealing to a huge demographic of people who are sick to death of all the Armin, Emery and A&B levels of hype and commercialism.
I have to admit, I will always endeavour to see for myself when something is criticized or justified by another.
I do so mainly out of curiosity, but it means I may have an alternate point of reference if I agree with the issues raised and as a main consequence, source good music as a result.
While some of the releases on Perfecto have been utter , there have been a couple of stand outs for me personally. |
