Labour Day Boat Cruises? (pg. 3)

With the way boat cruises are structured right now in Toronto (in comparison with say, Miami), and after how many cruises I've already been on, it's not worth it anymore (usually); at least for me. The prices have gone up by about 30%+ in the last 2 years. However, the people who still go on them seem to disagree because as far as I know, the bigger boat cruises tend to be doing well.

A lot of things 'used to be' and are now...

well thats inflation. i dont like it either. but to be fair, early birds were $55.

I hardly think you can peg the increase in boat cruise prices to "inflation". It's just promoters realizing that people will pay big bucks to go on a boat cruise with a headlining DJ, so they've increased their prices. Any other business owner would do the same under the circumstances.

To you maybe, but others may feel different.

But if no one believes its not due to inflation or inflated prices... then okay, continue on.

Enjoy the gas prices as well.

100%, it's supply/demand. If you sell something out at $60, you're bound to go for $70. If these sell out you can bet next year you'll see $80+. It sucks but it's the truth.

It is inflation...the artist, especially on long weekend, bumps up the prices they charge, and that inflation is passed on to the promoter and customer.

If you're going to do a boat cruise with a huge overhead and big DJ, you're not going to do it on a random Saturday or Sunday because it's too much risk, you have to do it on a long weekend.

Even the boat prices have gone up because they have limited dates, and they can always do a corporate event instead of giving it to an electronic promoter.

Not to be biased, but the overhead of renting a boat and booking an international talent, let alone local DJs contributes to the cost of a boat cruise ticket.

Most local DJ boat cruises cost $40 to $45, so to get Calderone for $65 is not that bad of a deal.

+ It costs a lot of money to rent a boat, organize, pay for DJ's, and pay for everything else.

People think we make millions, but in reality we don't make as much as people think.

Exactly!

People in Toronto should consider themselves lucky! You should see how much people have to pay in other cities just to see 1 artist. Look at the variety of artists we get in Toronto and most of the time we're only paying $20 bucks, sometimes to see 3 artists!

Well the Canada Day boat was on a much more expensive boat, 3 smaller DJs instead of 1 bigger one, and the biggest party day of the summer. Tickets for that cost $65 and the overhead would've been bigger or equal in most areas. So I'm either thinking that:

-Canada Day boat broke even or lost money even though it sold out well in advance, and Labour Day cruises are just making a bit of profit.

or

-Canada Day boat promoters made some money and promoters of the Labour Day boat cruises are basing their ticket price on what they think they can sell the boat out with, not on the cost of organising the event.

I'd agree with that for boats priced in the $40-55 range like your's and many others this summer. But when people are charging over $70 for very similar events I think that's what make people start to question things.

But everything aside there's not much point in people complaining. If you don't agree with the price don't buy it. There's been tons of reasonably priced boats this summer that I'm sure will be just as much fun or more than the ones coming up in September.
