Unless it's Pro Bono, you usually get what you pay for. |

I hardly think you can peg the increase in boat cruise prices to "inflation". It's just promoters realizing that people will pay big bucks to go on a boat cruise with a headlining DJ, so they've increased their prices. Any other business owner would do the same under the circumstances. |
Or dj agents know they can charge a load and still get booked |

Monday is for airshow.
Sunday is for party. |

It is inflation...the artist, especially on long weekend, bumps up the prices they charge, and that inflation is passed on to the promoter and customer.
If you're going to do a boat cruise with a huge overhead and big DJ, you're not going to do it on a random Saturday or Sunday because it's too much risk, you have to do it on a long weekend.
Even the boat prices have gone up because they have limited dates, and they can always do a corporate event instead of giving it to an electronic promoter. |
This makes perfect sense. To be honest, I am not behind the scenes at all, so my previous post was just speculation. I can see how the artist would jack up their fees on a long weekend, and how it would get passed on to the customer.
Make no mistake, I'm not saying that promoters are getting greedy. All I'm saying is, from the customer's point of view, it seems that someone on the business side has realized that there is more money to be made than simply $50 per ticket for a boat on a long weekend. I'm not sure who is taking the additional profit, but obviously someone has tuned into this, which is the reason for the 30%+ price increase. |

Exactly!
People in Toronto should consider themselves lucky! You should see how much people have to pay in other cities just to see 1 artist. Look at the variety of artists we get in Toronto and most of the time we're only paying $20 bucks, sometimes to see 3 artists! |
lol
This is flawed logic.
"Look, Torontonians! You are so lucky to only have to pay $20 for a headliner on a random Saturday night, and therefore you should not complain about having to pay $75 for the same headliner on another night."
Ok.
Also, please give me support for this argument, because I'll give you support for mine:
Saturday, August 20 @ Panorama Bar: Sasha, Cassy, Ben Klock, Motor City Drum Ensemble @ Berghain/Panorama Bar 12 EUR (<$20)
July 4 @ BLKMRKT Membership, NYC - Ben Klock & Nina Kraviz - $15
Next Saturday @ Fabric - Ten Snake, Ivan Smagghe, Andrew Weatherall, Tensnake, Craig Richards - 18GBP (~$30)
July in Paris - Pantha du Prince, Agoria, Junior Boys, Floating Points - 25EUR (~$35)
These prices aren't that far off from Toronto, and the cost of living in 3/4 of these cities are significantly more expensive than the cost of living in Toronto.
I'm not saying the cost of partying is overly expensive here, relatively speaking to everywhere else. However, I am saying that purporting that Torontonians should be grateful about how cheap it is to party here is an argument that has no basis.

Bounce by the Lake is much more fun anyways. |
By you saying this, is the same as.. "Well my party will be much more fun than that."
Which is pretty lame. If you think it will be a better party then great, no problem with that. But I'm sure other people (on the cruise) will think the cruise will be better than Bounce by the Lake.
Personally I don't care what party is happening or who goes to it, I just pointed it out. |

It's generally cheaper in Europe for many reasons. The biggest of which, it is easier to get across Europe if the artist is based in Europe.
For example, Art Department and Carlo Lio are based out of Europe for the summber because it is cheaper to fly them from Barcelona to Paris or London, instead of flying them from Toronto. The flight from Toronto to Europe is costly and really sinks into the promoter's profit margin.
When you are booking an artist in Toronto, you have to always factor in the flight from Europe. That's why promoters do flight shares and try to book the artist in Montreal or New York that weekend, because most flights are killer (especially if the guy wants to fly first cast).
Also in Europe, a lot of the big parties have corporate sponsorship or deep pocketed promoters who literally own some of the biggest clubs in the world. |

| ^^^ True for general cases, flights I'd imagine being a huge factor. But for the 2 Labour Day weekend cruises both GE and Calderone are playing at EZ on the Friday, then here for LOL on the weekend. |
