Ive lived in Sauga for most of my life...
Its a great city lol markham.
... its so darn close to Toronto which is very nice. Sure there isnt some entertainment district but there is the odd place(though they arent the best).
You definitely need a car to get around. relying on transit is super painful. Im all over the city everyday.
plenty of places to eat and drink aroudn the city. if your only definition of a city is how many clubs it has everything outside of toronto will suck(except maybe hess in hamilton lol...if you can call that a good thing... )
Lakeshore has nice areas to walk around. Streetsville is nice(but small)..you are also not too far from oakville downtown(nice) and burlington is just another clip down the lake. |

Rob, you have to come downtown on the weekends at least for some fun :) |
But common Funky, what do you do on a daily basis, that you cannot do in Sauga?
Parks/gardens - check
Cultural festivals - check
Bars/clubs/live music - check
Buy drugs - check
Cancer treatment - check
Mississauga is the 6th or 7th largest city in Canada, it is going to have to have a wide variety of things to do. They might not be as bountiful as in Toronto, but how many other cities in Canada can compete with TO? |

Of course if you are from Toronto it is a big change and can take some getting used to but it gets better over time :)
When I come downtown for the weekend I look forward to going back to Brampton because it is what I know :p |
I lived in North York for 5 years (3 years @ York campus, 2 years @ Jane/Finch vicinity) b4 moving downtown
best decision everrr!
I also commute to Richmond Hill for the weekend :)
honestly, the only thing to do in the boonies is to go out, drink & eat, shop in the malls or got to the movies (which is fine as a relaxing weekend but not all the time)

what I can do? lol
I walk everywhere with anything and everything in a very close proximity
where the hell are you gonna walk to in Sauga? It's hardly pedestrian, it's a sleepy residential area, IMO
lol @ bars/clubs in Sauga, I laughed very hard at that :)
ALL major cultural festivals happen in Toronto, all summer long - Salsa @ St. Clair, Little Italy, Greek fest, Busker fest, Harbourfront events etc etc
the only downside I can really pinpoint is high rent and hard to find good, spacious places to live at without paying a lot of $$ for them |

I practically grew up in Jane & Finch. Feels eerie/busy when I go back there these days.
I wouldn't dare live in Mrs.Sauga... However, I heard Port Credit is quite nice. |

So I am guessing that you have spent a lot of time in Mississauga to make those hilarious assumptions about what there is to do?
It all depends on what area you live in, for walking. Like it was already stated before, you could live in Port Credit and walk to pretty much anything you need. There are parts of Toronto that are just like a big suburb but with some TTC access. A good part of the East side of Toronto is an endless sea of houses, with not much in terms of walking distance. Living downtown is not a true reflection of the rest of the city, so it does not make for a fair comparison. You lived at York, it was an empty waste land around that god for saken University.
There are most certainly lots of bars, and places for people to go dancing. It depends on what type of music you are into, and what size you want. You won't get Guv in Sauga, let's face it, that is the ONLY super club in the TO. The rest are much smaller with capacity for a few hundred, which clubs in Mississauga can certainly compete with.
As an example, my friends and I go to Abbey Road a lot; they have amazing live rock many nights a week. The local musicians are incredible, and do a really good job of playing there. The bar is filled with anybody from 20 years old to 60 years old; you can see multiple generations who grew up in the area, and it has a very good vibe.
LOL @ all major cultural events. Every major city has those large events. Mississauga also has a Rib Fest, Carassauga, and other cultural events. Have you been to any of these to count them out as 'valid cultural events'? |

I have commuted there from North York for over a year :) as I said - sleepy residential town.. lovely houses mind you but boooooring!
in regards your other points (bars/clubs/live music) - I'm not much into clubs anymore but what I love about downtown is that you can go on a stroll on College Street or Queen West and find really amazing little places both for food or for a drink or 2 (lounges)
does Sauga have an area like that? or do you have to drive everywhere for that? I mean a bar with live music and good food but in the middle of nowhere ain't my cup of tea IMO
like I mentioned already - big plus in downtown TO is the proximity of everything, or a short cab drive/TTC ride away

how is Rib Fest "cultural" lol :) sure, Toronto has wine and beer fests :)
what are your vague "other" cultural events? |

hey now everyone calm down....lol
This wasn't meant to be a bash Mississauga thread....
Was just looking for some ideas. Although the comments about everything being far is true. The one thing that I miss is walking out of the door and within a 5 min walk I can go to a park, watch a movie, eat at 30+ places, go to a comedy club, go to various lounges, go to 2-3 different grocery stores, go to a mall, etc, etc....
Not a bad thing, but it just takes driving everywhere. Now I came from Windsor so I am used to having to drive everywhere to do something. I never understood the big deal of having to do so, but having lived at Yonge/Eg for 2 years has really spoiled me...lol
Now lets all hug..... |
