But what did 1015 ever do that would draw crowds besides book djs and play "techno" music. 50% of the turnout at 1015 was almost always the same "washers" and the likes, the kind of people you don't see at any other edm club.
Then Ruby, that is right down in tourist central, any weekend night will sell well there....
In SF, you need promotion, especially viral promotion. If Myself and a few friends are realy excited about an artists, we will bring 2-5 people each with us... etc
Downey doesn't have a fan-base in the US yet. Daniel Kandi, or DJ Eco have a bit more... Not that I care about either of those artists too much more than Downey, just that they have more fans

Well, he is right though. There used to be a HUGE group of us that went to 1015 ever yFriday and Saturday no matter who played. Most of the time I didn't even know who was playing. I'd just go. And it was always a blast.
Then the dot-com crash happened. Then people got older. And those people drifted away is when 1015 really started to suffer. Years back.

Things have changed though. People don't go to the same place every weekend just to go. There isn't one or two places you can hear edm now, where you know you'll see the other few hundred other people who like edm.
Instead, there are hundreds of thousands of people, that have 20 places to choose from to hear some type of edm played.
The close-knit community is gone.

Well, I go out less, I drink wine as my main source of alcohol, and I hate the new music that is getting popular (even though I honestly tried to like dub and electro)
Thanks for letting me join the old man club. What's funny is my wife is more jaded than I am, and she's only 22.

It takes time to build. Something is not going to happen overnight, and with every club, venue, event promotion is key. Tosh is right, when 1015 “ended” the people who would either choose Ruby or 1015 for a Saturday night dissipated. A lot of us who used to come out every Saturday, either stayed home, or found another venue, many flocked to Ruby as it is the only solid venue playing Electronic Dance Music on a weekly basis with top headlining acts. Some went to Mighty, Temple, Slide…
It’s not that more clubs are playing EDM Tosh, many venues in the city have always played some sort of EDM, just not on the scale of how 1015 or Ruby Skye does/did it.
From my understanding, Club 525 will be seeing a renovation in the next coming months for a full makeover. Much like how Sound Factory has recently been renovated, and other promotion crews have been using the facility for events.
In comparison of contrast to 1015, 525 does need to find its niche crowd, our events showcasing Kyau & Albert & Ronski Speed, as well as Bjorn Akkeson did great. Here are some photos and video I shot from the nights where K&A & Ronski headlining.

Go 18+ full time! Much more energy in the younger crowd... AND I can then see the artists I wanna see
Maybe only make the GL for 21+ since we pay for drinks
fupaking
Might I recommend as far as the renovations go, change the name of the clubs.
Sound Factory - dated (and for the longest time, I can't think of any good connotations).
Same with 525 (hate club names named after street addresses).
Reminds of of 10-15 year ago places that sucked then too.
