I think this thread has potential, every post recommends one quality album/EP that he likes/recently discovered/wants to share with TA. Can be old/new/whatever. Any genre (within EDM would be nice, tho)
Please spend a little effort on your description (not TOO long please) Discussing the recommendations is obviously allowed.

Description:
When I heard that Cosmin TRG was going to do an album I thought it was going to be another '12 dancefloor tools = album' thing but Cosmin wisely adapted to the album format and reduced the length of his tracks. With an maximum length of about 5 minutes and multiple interludes, Simulat is an quick 45 minute ride through TRGs very special style of Techno. Coming from a varied Dubstep background, TRG is not afraid to use quite a lot melody and bouncier drums unlike many pure Techno producers, which results in TRG's very unique style. Coupled with the shortlivety of this album Simulat is a very enjoyable debut by TRG. |

Description: Very nice album from Eulberg. Much more melodic than most of the techno I've been listening to lately, feels well put together, tracks work well with each other, there is continuity in it. However, feels like he could have pushed the boundaries a bit further. |

Describtion: Man this is so great. I only found this through an random RA review, really glad I did. You remember this whole microhouse/minimal house thing? Well this is it, driven to near-perfection and with some experimental weirdness added to it.
12-14 minute long epic jams full of clicking and clacking weirdness. Still discriptions don't do a lot of justice, best you listen to it yourself. |

Description: I never picked this album up way back when, and it's only recently that I came across it, in a time 10 years removed from the era of Twilo and dark, relentless progressive house. This album was when prog was striving to be as dark, loopy, and percussive as possible... and Digweed was known as the master of the style. Disk 1 contains lots of productions from Satoshi Tomiie, very raw tribal cuts that sound more NY than LA, the highlight being "Love In Traffic" with its warped, desperate vocal. While it starts out on a high note with Apollo Vibes and Love In Traffic, Digweed spends the rest of the CD seeing just how stripped down and loopy he can go. So the mix doesn't feel like it's going anywhere... there are no easily discernable melodies, no peaks and valleys, no buildups, which makes things very disappointing. The best prog mixes have distinct and dynamic peaks and valleys (Digweed's Hong Kong GU being a very effective example), this disk just flatlines. Disk 2 fares better, with much more in the way of melody. It's got the right balance between peaks and valleys, and although I wouldn't reckon it's a classic mix, it's still worth a listen. Cass - Genesis and its monster bassline is a highlight, as well as Inner Laugh and the Bedrock mix of The Fall, which hovers in air without a kickdrum for 3 minutes. The tracks are much more distinct, but the finale is pretty weak.
Also, it really pissed me off a few weeks ago at Electric Zoo. Digweed came on to play (he was sandwiched on the main stage between Sander Van Doorn and Above and Beyond)... and the tweenie girls in front of me were complaining about how boring it was, asking "so who is this John Digweed guy anyways, never heard of him". I'm thinking "this guy is a legend, have some ing respect"! Unfortunately, his set this year was pretty bog-standard and uninteresting, while last year his EZoo set was the highlight of the show. |
