13 sports cars valued at $2 million impounded after Surrey highway race

The only reason they got caught, they did this during the afternoon. Dumb asses.

The most expensive car impounded was a Ferrari 599. Plus all the drivers were under the age of 22. They have to pay $196 fine and lose their license/permit for a week :haha:

They were all asian kids too haha

Although I'm against the way it can be used (anyone going 150km+) I'd love to see these kids charged with McGuinty's racing deal. Up to $10k fine, automatic impoundment + license suspension. Not that that would cripple their parents wallet but it's would def be better than $200 ticket + some towing charges.

There was a similar case a year or 2 ago with exotic cars racing on the highway to Whistler, maybe some of the same drivers.

Biggest fine was a million in Switzerland, special rate for rich dudes.

The Ferrari 599 pretty expensive. I didn't really take a good look at it, but who knows if it is the base model the GTB or the race version GTO. Both are pretty expensive. [update: I just checked and it is the base GTB so that is like $350k-$400k right there]

The 3 Nissan GT-Rs are over $100k each. So that is $300k right there. The Mercedes Benz SLS starts at $200k. The Audi R8s are like $150k a piece or more... So that is like $450k+

I am surprised none of these kids got their hands on a Koenigsegg or Bugatti or even a Lexus LFA.

Actual resale value I doubt would be 2mil unless there's some serious additions to the cars. But MSRP + tax cost would easily break 2mil. Never trust those $$$ value stats released by police media, it's the same as all other stats you can manipulate however you want.

Perfect example is the drug busts they do. Eg they find 10 lbs of pot that might retail in bulk for $10,000 but the cops don't say the actual weight. They just release the dollar value assuming $10/gram which comes out to a "$44,000 drug bust". OR like when that short shafted buddy of your's measures from underneath instead of the base on top and claims to be sporting 8". All in the name of making something look better than it actually is...

They lack serious creativity/originality going by the list. But then again in highschool it's all about having what your friends have, I'm sure they'll spend their parents much better in their 20s... :haha:

Someone found out the identity of one of the kids, Matt Zhang. It seems he has a huge following on revscene.net. He's the kid with the matt black R8. He supposedly wrapped one around a tree a while back or something :haha:

These kids are dumb for trying to race in broad daylight. Back 4-5 years ago if someone called you out for a race we would meet up at a timmies at 3am and convoy out to Cambridge backroads and rip it. Not a person in sight!

It has been a while since we heard any updates on the alleged B.C. teens street racing incident that saw numerous exotics yanked off the street and locked away in impound lots. The last we heard was that the B.C. government was intending to permanently seize five vehicles and auction them off. Well the word is now out on which five vehicles the lawsuit is aiming to take possession over - two Lamborghinis, an Aston Martin, a Mercedes SLS AMG and a Nissan GT-R.

The drivers were reportedly swerving in and out of traffic in an unsafe manner which was considered by other motorists as street racing at speeds of over 180-200 km/h.

The director of civil forfeiture would like to see the vehicles be put up on the auction block and make the teens feel the pain metaphorically to what their dangerous driving could have resulted in. Out of the five vehicles, one was driven by a minor, and an additional two were operated by novice drivers. The driver of the Nissan GT-R only holds a driver's licence issued by the People's Republic of China.

The Province also reports that several of the defendants are now known to have previous driving records that include not having a valid licence, all the way up to, you guessed it, street racing.

We will keep you in the loop with the latest news on the court case.
