Reason why people don't want to get involved, is that if something else goes wrong they will be held responsible and can be sued (the American way of thinking). Here is another thing about the US: Story
Here in Canada, you can be fined for not helping out if I remember correctly.
It is nice to see there is a few noble people out there. |

What I find pretty pathetic and personally somewhat disturbing is the fact that agencies have to promote good nature through TV ads. I was watching TV the other day and this "Good Deeds" commercial came on. It basically informs the viewer that if good deeds were more common they wouldn't stand out as much. Tells you quite a bit about the society we live in...
Where I grew up you are expected to do the good deed instinctively and if you don't you're just as good as a criminal. It's actually funny in some cases it's like random strangers on the street are waiting for someone to ask for help or to up so they can bring on the punches and kicks in the nuts before the cops come.
I blame the ridiculously overprotective judicial system that allows typical people to exploit everyday incidents in favor of a cash return, and on a higher note, allows criminals to be pampered and hide behind laws that elude them to the public as victims. Oh, and I also blame the utter bull on TV that produced an entire generation of ethic-less young hipster lady gaga douche bags. |

Incorrect. Nobody is legally obligated to help, not even doctors.... But those who do decide to help are supposed to be protected by a good samaritan law. That's what they told us during our first aid and CPR course.
