I kept wanting for the troll to say something like a racial epithet or how it was spanked as a child and turned out just fine or even advocating that Jim Cameron's Titanic is a cinematic masterpiece which adds substantially to the historical record. Yeah, I know it's not that kind of film, but the whole bit about how trolls apparently go after Christians threw me.

Yeah, well it's based on Norwegian folklore. I don't know much about Norway, but I'm guessing they hate Christians and fabricated the idea of trolls to purge their country of Jesus' followers/deter children from accepting Christ.

Metalocalypse did an episode on it. The band inadvertently summoned a troll in Finland when they adapted the text of a book into lyrics for one of their songs, so I suspect you're right about the folklore angle.
