Hi Guys, This is my first post in this section of the forums,
i guess my question was asked before but i searched on the forums
and I didnt find solution.
I have like a week now trying to produce in the Reason Program, I have
read all the GETTING STARTED manual, and i will start reading the OPERATION
manual now, I have learned a lot reading the manual and practicing with the
program while reading, However I havent find the way to build a track, I mean
.. I want to make a track without a melody, ... just a trak with the
drum machine, but i dont know how to work with the Patterns... Example:
in Pattern A1 I have a Drum Kick
in Pattern A2 I have a Snare
So.. I want that the first 32 beast will be just the Drum Kick
and after those 32 beats starts The Drum Kick with the Snare, working in 4/4.
in fruity loops I just clicked pattern Playlist and put something like this:
A1 A1 A1 A1 A1 A1 A1 A1 A1 A1 A1 A1 A1 A1 A1 A1
A2 A2 A2 A2 A2 A2 A2 A2
I want to do that in Reason, can someone explain me how??
maybe is something about Automation, but i dont understand that.
when I click Pattern Lane it says: Not Automated.
I hope u can help me,
Thanks in Advance, Carlos. |

Fruityloops is PATTERN based.
Reason's sequencer is LINEAR.
So when you're sequencing with reason, forget about everything you did with fruity, because they're totally different.
My advice: just read the section in the operation manual about the sequencer... it explains everything there. |

| Just take a quick peek at the manual, you'll be able to figure it out in three seconds. Sorry I can't go in more detail, I don't use reason so I'm not sure exactly how to do it. |

What you have to do, is create a pattern.
Once you've got one you are happy with, use the COPY PATTERN TO TRACK function.
At that point, mute the device, so that it only plays from the song sequencer, and not the device pattern sequencer. |

HI, Thanks Sooper, but i have a question, by example:
I want first 8 beats just bass kick, and after that 8 beats with the 8 beats with the bass kick but with Hi Hats between Bass kicks,... so.. can I make a pattern with the Bass kick.. and another with the Hi Hats and then Mix the 2 patterns... or I have to make a pattern with the Bass kick.. and another Pattern with the bass kick and the Hi Hats ??????
Thanks in Advance |

You can make different patterns - when you copy the pattern to track the patterns "merge" into one pattern with both the kick and the hihat.
I usually give each drumset their own ReDrum unit, though - it's much clearer and easier to do variations with. |

| I dont even use the redrum nemore, i just have an n-19 for every drum sample, does nebody else do this? You get a lot more control over the drums this way. |

| Yeah like somebody above said...it's better to use a separate Redrum for similar types of sounds...that way you can add specific eq and effects to them...so use one device for kick drum, another for high hats, another for claps...etc.. |

Usually, what I do, is create one pattern on the Redrum for the kick, hihats and snare. I use the 8 different patterns in each letter for variations on the same drum beat. For example, pattern A1 will be the kick pattern. Pattern A2 will be the same kick but with a snare pattern added. Pattern A3 will be the same as pattern A2 but with a hihats pattern added. Sometimes I fill up all of A as I add different sounds. Then I will use the B section to modify the patterns in A. For example, I will add extra kick at the end of the pattern, and use that only at the end of a build up in the song. So section B is all variations on A Patterns, and used randomly throughout the song for dynamic purposes. Section C, for example, will be the patterns from A, with various components dropping out through the pattern, which is great for any breakdowns in your song.
I use the N-19 sampler for additional percussion, like cymbal patterns and percussive effects - this way it is easier to manipulate the sounds. I try to create a new sequencer track for each percussion machine, instead of merging and blending on the same track, because once you merge or blend, you permanently create a new pattern. Reason lets you have as many sequencer tracks as you want. So as long as you keep everything organized, why not take advantage of this? I also rename every machine and sequencer track to make things easier to handle. |

| I use the samplers mainly becuase you can around with the filter and add compression via the envelopes. Its strange how everybody has a different way of doing things. |

you can also assign each Redrum channel to a seperate Mixer channel or to special fx( toggle rear view and look at Redrum )..
I never do that, using rather NN19 instead ...
