hey guys, some friends and i are going to be in Belgium and the Netherlands for some R and R in november. we get in friday the 4th and leave sunday the 13th. we'll hang out in Brussels, hit up Amsterdam; and then 1 or 2 other cities. i was thinking about Bruges and Rotterdam.

my overall goals are to: take some train rides, smoke a dubee in Amsterdam, go out in the countryside, take pictures, go to a museum, walk down narrow streets, look at canals, drink Amstels, go to discoteks, maybe ride a bike, try to pick up babes. i am doing some research into the above/hostels/logistics and the internet only goes so far. who's got some input?

cities
night clubs/bars
points of interest
hostels
anything else

thanks in advance. i love you all.

The Flying Pig hostel in Amsterdam was always really cool, but it's been a long time since I've been there, so I have no idea if it's still as awesome as it used to be. It's very central though, which is handy.

don't go to brussels, the best cities: Gent, Bruges, Hasselt, Antwerp!. if you take the train from antwerp to amsterdam there are stops in rotterdam and the hague (den haag), Den Haag is a very beautiful city! ;)

Amsterdam you'll be done with in 3 days MAX! Hit up Barney's Coffee Shop then go across the street to Barney's Breakfast Bar and get the scrambled eggs intense w/dutch cheese and you're good to go. You can smoke at breakfast also...when done if you need a sweet treat, across the st is a bakery and get yourself a croissant.

Baba's and Barney's are my most favorite shops, Dampkring is also good but no hats inside.

I heard flying pig is awesome. The only reason I can't speak from experience is cause everytime I go , its all booked out. The one thing I will hand it though, is even though its really grown in popularity over the years, they have hardly raised their prices.

The last time I went to Amsterdam it was cool but I felt like wherever I went, I had to pay a lot to just sit and chill. If I went to a bar , they would charge 5 euros a pint , expect a 1 euro tip and sit there and watch you drink it down. No nursing allowed. If I went to a coffee shop they would usually require me to buy weed from their vendors instead of bringing my own, and since each batch comes it 20 euros its expensive. It goes without saying that the most fun thing to do in Amseterdam is eat the mushrooms, but after you eat them you're in for one expensive trip.

Last time I was in 'sterdam, we just sat down in the park and relaxed. It was the morning we got there (we got there about 2-3am, so couldn't check in), and we were tired as . We just took the train to Rotterdam back and forth once and then walked to the park and spent a few hours there. Bliss.

i just came back from a backpacking trip (earlier this June) which included those two countries- Netherlands & Belguim (best beer on earth) and where you will want to spend most of your travel time.

Like Earnyourkeep said, you will be done and over with Amsterdam in 4 days...i planned my stay there for 6 days but within 3 days i pretty much did everything there was to be done- hit up the museums, go bike riding (bike central on the planet), take a walk around the red district (which wasn't too exciting, bunch of old rags), drinks lots of beer while going on boat rides & puffing that la la la la. Got lost plenty of times walking aimlessly out of the main city. I normally would begin my day by taking a 15m shuttle bus from my hostel- Lucky Lake must have been one of my top three fav hostels out of the 10 or so hostels i stayed in my whole trip; no second thoughts about it, i'd def go back there next time i return to AMS- to the train that would take about 20m to get to the main city, ams centraal. This hostel was by the countryside where they had bikes you can rent and choose between 2 trails that would last about 2+/- hrs. anyways, so i'd get on the train towards the main city but normally would get off like a station or two before and walk towards to main city- each station would be about a 10-20m walk, so it wasn't very big. Take the time to rent a bike once there too and check out the city as much as possible. I can't really recommend much on cafes and stuff bc the first thing i did when i arrived was get a 5g bag of that good-ish and that lasted me my whole time there (since it was just me and my homegrl, who hardly smoked).

but yea...my itinerary was to stay for 6 days but upon the fourth day i felt like i had seen enough and cut my plan short of a day and headed to Belgium the following morning on train which wasn't a long ride either (about 2+ hrs).

Arrived at Brussels but didn't stay there long, just for half a day and headed to Brugge on train, which was like a 45m ride. BTW, i thought i would ride on comfort and bought a first-class 5day travel pass (waste of money; save ur cash and go 2nd-class).

Now, let me just say...Brugge...I shall return, no doubt about it- this city was BEAUTIFUL!!!! the food was delicious, the beer...let me not even get into that (better than the beer in Munich). the people were extremely cool, so clean & well-maintained...
