those that have a problem with what he's playing, you did it to yourself by adding fuel to the 'where trance went wrong' video fire. he took offense to that and changed up his style. but hey this is TA, you can never seem to please. :rolleyes:
i personally don't have a problem with what he's playing, ya there are electro/house in there, but there are still progressive/techno tunes he's playing, like such.

and i don't understand how anybody would have problems with caress 2 impress (msbrr), beat service outsider, in a green valley,angular momentum, etc. |

| I thought Dakota "Thoughts Become Things II" Album was really good. I can't see any reason to bash on Markus, one of, if not the best trance DJ/Producer combos there is. Especially among the more popular DJ/Producers. |

Decent enough tracks, I cannot deny. A whole night of them, tho', would probably grate for the same reason most trance DJs do: constant stop-start breakdowns/builds, ruining any sense of flow. Is there a whole set of his playing this stuff out there? |

I have heard some of those ID's at Space, They are amazing to hear on a proper sound system.
I think that may be the issue some people have, these tracks really come to life in the clubs and hearing them on your computer does not do it justice.

I just dont think Schulz is doing much for the trance scene at present and hasnt for 18 months. I get the feeling that him, the rest of the Armada crowd, Emery and others are like rats deserting the trance ship which is unfortunate. |

Haha, very true. Was saying that to my wife at the time. Strangely, we went to Full on Ferry at Sankeys the night before and saw Richard Durand in their who was 'Crasher's 'special guest' the folowing night. He was going about completely unrecognised, saw me make eye contact and we couldnt get rid of him for half an hour! Nice guy though and nice that he still goes out when off duty and talks to punters. I must say that SvD was a pleasant surprise that night.
Going back to your point re. Be @ Space, I think Corsten has suffered from over exposure in Ibiza this year with a weekly residency then regular gigs at Cream and JS - I wonder if Space maybe more suited to an exclusive residency from him? However, Im pretty certain Armada etal will be back at Space next year. Whatever we may think they seem to pull in the crowds but for how long? I remember djs like Tall Paul and Seb Fontaine start to move away from the style that made them famous and they went from djmag top 10 to outside the 100 within three years. Its a fine balance for a dj to remain fresh and relevant and still maintain their core fan base. |

To be fair, a lot of older jocks lose positions in the poll because their older fans stop voting for them for various reasons (move onto other styles of music, move on from clubbing, move on from voting in popularity contests:p ). |

This is true. But alot of older djs maintain their position in the top 100 too. Clearly all djs need to evolve their sound overtime. However, history suggests that radical genre jumping does not lead to medium or long term success. It just smacks of rats and sinking ships. Particularly annoying when your favourite djs do it and leave a massive void. |

Random shot in the dark here, but do any of you live in Denver? If so, did you see Paul Van Dyk at Beta this year or GDF last year?
If it the poll were based on skill of the DJ and not popularity, there is no doubt in my mind that he would make the number one spot. I've seen most of the people in the top 30 and not one compares to the energy that guy brings.
And for those who are saying about trance DJ's not keeping to their style, do you think PVD has changed? I would definitely say that he has stayed genuine |

His sound has evolved but he has largely remained true to the scene when he plays out. Agree, technically he is very good, in fact i think he has got better over the years with the introduction of live synths and remixing in his sets. His club sound certainly has energy too still, although he isnt really a showman and rarely interacts with the crowd. The one area he has not been as successful in is developing his brand and the Vandit enterprise. Armada win hands down in this respect, as did Pefecto in the 90's and early 000's (just as Oakie turned to crap). I dont think he really capitalised on being number 1 in the dj poll as others have. But maybe he didnt want to. |
