really?

i understand there are some critics out there saying he's playing too much trance-fart but playing fluffy trance? maybe here and there but nothing to label him a 'fluff dj'

BTW, considering the HUGE shift with the polls this year, him being able to stay in the top 10 is saying something. And he didn't have to do any type of selling out stay in the top 10.

EXACTLY. that's a huge feat in itself.

Markus plays tons of fluffy ! but this is coming from non-trance listener.

it doesnt need vocals to be unicorn but he still throws them in there

look Im not hating on the guy Im actually kinda happy to see that theres still some us "trance" represented in the poll (as gross as it is). what disturbs me about markus is that hes made a load of money jumping on the armada bandwagon and making the worst tiest trance around along with awful music videos and even rap collaborations.

but when he sensed the tide turning against the unicorn world, he tried to distance himself from it by announcing that hes actually "anti unicorn". its so transparent and embarrassing and I think he should own who he is and what he does, just like armin does.

last few times i have seen markus, there was ZERO fluff.....straight banging

'breathing' is definitely fluffy, but he throws that in there because we request it and it's a classic. i wouldn't say it's representative of his style anymore.

lol @ markus pretending to be anti-unicorn while playing unicorn music

you're so removed from reality bud. you should just stop embarrassing yourself.

markus' problem the last year is he doesn't play anymore fluffy, cheesey trance. he tries to play banger after banger. he really has become this anti-unicorn thing and it's gotten annoying for me and some others.

does he still drop a cheesey song every 2 hours? sure. but he literally only plays like 3 or 4 of them in a 4 hour set now. he's embraced the unicorn slaying thing and it isn't just a facade.

I dont know last time at avalon saw him for about 6+ hours and it was straight bangers no fluff maybe adds the fluff for festivals

This whole "fluffy vs. banging" argument has become ridiculous. Most of the time when people saying "banging", they're talking about farty-bass music that barely sounds like trance. Then he plays a track like "Breathing" and it gets called fluffy? Sure, the vocal version is a bit cheesy, but that's still Airwave. And it was his closing song after a 6 hour set! It's an excellent song to close with!

I like Markus's sets. Asking a trance DJ to play no unicorn (i.e. uplifting music) is practically telling him not to play trance at all. I understand the complaint if a DJ plays too many cheesy vocal tracks, but Markus doesn't play a lot of them, just a few here and there.

If you want "banging", go listen to Carl Cox. Techno is fantastic for that sort of thing.

heres a repost of what I just said in the music discussion forum;

not wanting to be a hater, I listened to markus radio show today and was surprised, hes actually way better than I remember him being in the past. hes definitely a major cut above armin in the quality stakes that much is true. theres some fluffiness to what he plays but theres also more sophistication and some darker elements too which is overall a nice balance. I have to eat my words and say his track selection was pretty good. Im into the harder sounds myself but as far as the commercial trance djs go like armin, gareth etc, markus definitely has the best sound of the bunch (other than oakenfold whos been caning the psy lately).

I find it funny how Markus calls himself the Unicorn Slayer and will take a trancefamily poster from the crowd and hold it above his head and throw heart hand signs to the crowd. I thought his productions this year sounded too alike and were really boring. I don't like the siren-like songs (ex: Turbulence) he plays, it gets boring real quick. However, I'd still take a Markus set any day over any of the popular trance dj's sets.
