Evolution of your musical taste

It just dawned on me - I'm out of love with trance, prog, anything with bpms over 120 mark... It was a steady decline and now I'm more into chill, ambient, space, drone type of music. Been listening to Eno, Air, Tangerine Dream, Jmj, 80's synth pop.
Commercialization of edm and whole DJ worship slowly ate away my former enjoyment. I can't think of any DJ I'd go out of my way to see...
What's your take and where are you these days? |

Mid '90s: mostly alt rock and metal.
1999 - 2004: trance, prog house
2005 - 2009: IDM, ambient and downtempo, classical, also prog and trance still
2009 - now: all of the above, with some techno, dnb, dubstep, "indie" rock and other things
Ultimately I've not abandoned any of my old tastes, just added to them. I guess I can't stand some of the cheesiest trance I used to enjoy, but once I've liked a few things in a genre I never completely write it off. |

My story is kind of similar.
Trance and i fell in love right away, love at first... sound?
We had a long term relationship until he found me in bed with House music.
Jokes aside, it started with cheesy melodic trance and hardcore ferry corsten type stuff, so about 134 - 137 bpm? , then i discovered Tribal House which back then was like 131 bpm give or take. Then came the trashy and crappy house music (shame on me)
Then Tech House came along, 128 bpm... Deep House, 121 - 125 bpm
Finally, Disco House, spacey funky and sexy stuff , kind of a retro feel... 112 - 119 bpm
It seems the older i get the bigger the drop. |

I gotta say, it was cheesy electro-house and cheesy commercial house for me to start. Then I turned to moreso of the cheese/vocal trance, with a little of decent trance mixed in... then I moved onto what is now known as "top 40 progressive/electro house".
Finally I noticed I was a retard for liking that type of music so I finally did a little bit of digging and found better prog, deep house, and prog breaks. Dats about it |

1998-2000 Pop,Rock,, Classical Music
2000-2005 Trance,Hard Techno,Hardstyle (140-170bpm),Linkin Park,My Chemical Romance
2006-2008 Rammstein,System of a Down,In flames, Soilwork... Metal and on the EDM side, Happy Hardcore, Trance and DnB
2009-2010 Progressive House, Trance, Tech House,Ambient
2011 Techno>Tech House>Trance>Progressive House (way too cheesy now)>DnB>Dubstep now i enjoy 125-130bpms the most.
But in general what i don't listen to anymore is Pop/Rock, i still listen to some Metal and Hardcore.
I foresee myself listening to more techno and DnB quite enjoying this 2 things but sadly i don't listen to new DnB records because dubstep cracked them mostly old ones so i don't consider myself a Dnb listener |

1995-2002 Pop music, classical music
2003-2004 Hip-hop, party rap
2004-2007 Electro house, hard techno, Phillip Glass
2006-2007 Instrumental rock, prog rock, metal, fusion jazz
2007-2008 Tech-trance, uplifting trance, prog trance
2009-2010 Flamenco fusion, jazz, prog house
2011 Classic/dark/goa/psy trance
I've been trying to listen to classic trance since 2007, but it didn't click with me until recently.
Also, I've been listening to all sorts of music since 2007, but plenty of it didn't impress me much (New Age,krautrock, psychedelic rock,rockabilly/early rock n roll, minimal house/trance,IDM,drum n bass, jungle, breakcore, reggae, punk, ska etc) |

| Basically, what you're saying is that you're getting increasingly boring. |

birth to 2002: russian pop music and chillout like Enigma and Deep Forest, sprinkled with whatever pop they played in america and canada
2002-2006: ty remixes of videogame soundtracks, hard trance, hardstyle
summer 2006: quote by me, "Tracking Treasure Down is a really nice track."
summer 2006, five minutes later: Sasha, live @ Dortmund 2006. brain implodes.
2007: d'n'b & jungle, idm, dub techno, ambient, progressive trance/house, chillout, alot of industrial
2008-2010: all the same, except going backwards in time. multitudes of other electronic genres & subgenres tracked down. psy is added in a big, big way. classical music scoured for hints of the melodies of trance and ambient music. electroacoustic music and noise join the fray.
2011: sound. i like traffic in the mornings alot. & listening to a small number of live jazz tings.
every major transition happened kinda overnight. |
