Trance, can EDM survive without it?

Opinions of new and past time listeners welcome. We already know PVD, Tiesto, Armin etc have held down the genre(listing is arbitrary). But are their any other artists that can go beyond these days?

I've been putting my faith in some of the proggier artists lately, such as Basil O'Glue and Tucandeo.

Let's see how long this thread can stay focused.

My point of view is: The days of diehard fans are over. EDM gods that reach across every genre are less likely. The genre and sub-genres are too fragmented now.

EDM will go, and has gone on without trance being the lead for a long time.

Besides, this begs the question once again; What EXACTLY is trance????
