What's the big deal about the Koen Groenveld remix of Plastic Dreams? Honestly I think that was one of the low points of his set that made me actually stop dancing. I'm gonna just assume that this is the only track people could actually ID, hence why people liked it lol :tongue3 |
It's Plastic'in'Dreams... and TBH,never hear anyone play that anymore unless it's a classics night or something, or it's a awful remix that doesn't do it justice. This may have been a remix, but had alot of elements of the original and the way Coxy brought it in and played with it and got the crowd into it was the appeal.
Proof positive (along with other tracks he played that night) that it's the DJ and how he plays it, not just the track. |

Thanks a massive amount for the access, had a wicked time. I was initially concerned when I got there just just after 11. The place was practically empty... talk about ppl being late starters. By 12:30 the place was pretty packed, which brought the energy and made it feel more like a party! I've never been to a warehouse-type event, so the initial feeling was different compared to a club environment. Like I said, when ppl finally packed the place the feeling of large space disappeared. It was great to see some of the familiar faces I've grown to expect at these events. You guys always compliment the night.

$8 drinks seems ridiculous when people are already shelling out $35-60 for cover.

These are the highest prices for beer I've paid... ever! By the time you drop a buck or two to the bartender as a tip that brings the drinks to a level of stupidity.
As for Carl and Sneak... enjoyed them very much. I'm glad the night was loaded with hard playing tunes. It's been too long since I've heard some kick-ass techno. By 4am I noticed the crowd size dropped significantly and decided it was time go to too. Being up 22 hours after the week I had at work was a bit much.
Couple of images pulled from footage:

^^^ The two dudes checking out the blonde with the black top... priceless. :P

| Nice pics, really like that overhead! I guess that's the plus of having a light on the vid camera instead of just relying on a flash of a camera. |

Thanks.
No lighting that night. I generally never use it. I like to video under the natural conditions of the event. |

This was a great party! and I hope this location will be used again. This is what parties should be like.
Great sound, amazing vibe, great space, very friendly staff. Hopefully these kind of parties will make a comeback!
Cox was relentless and Sneak surprised me quite a bit!
The only downside were the lights being turned on quite often. At first it was cool but then kinda not so much :)
But overall: 10/10!!! |

Her bod was smoking. When she came up where we were, most the dudes had their eyes glued on her for sure! I wonder if any of the media hoard caught a shot of her... LOL. |

Techno like it's s'pposed to be done. Quite simply, the best party I've been to this year.
The warehouse was a great venue for re-capturing the "old-school" feel.
Minimal lighting effects and decoration. The sound was pretty decent and only got muddled in a couple of areas. Regardless the bass was kickin'!
Ya, there were 2 bottle service areas flanking the dancespace (and ya, full of meat-heads and overdressed skanks -of both genders) but the vibe was positive, fun, and despite the "class" distinctions there were no problems. They had security but they were quite respectful and helpful, i.e. telling stupid smokers to butt out and keeping a watchful eye on the over-served.
But my god, the techno. I couldn't stop dancing the whole night until 5am when the party ended.
Arrvied to see DJ Sneak for about an hour or so and then Carl got on and flogged the crowd mercilessly with pumpin, groovy, mechanical, percussive techno. An absolute joy to dance to! After a couple of hours he and Sneak went back to back. Sooooo good.
The cherry on top, a free shuttle bus from Downsview Park to Nathan Phillips Square at 5am.
Way to go! |

One week on, not too late at all to write a review.
Arrived there after 11 to catch Sneak's set, and though it was feeling a bit empty-ish I knew it was going to quickly fill up. As others have said, the sound was vastly improved from the Hallowe'en party, and overall there was simply a better atmosphere.
When CC hit the decks it was game on, and even his 75-90% is far better than many others when they're at their best. My 3rd time seeing Cox and I would say it was the best. Personally I dig the chug-a-chug techno, and thought when him and Sneak were going back to back, their styles complimented each other quite well.
I think one of these warehouse jams every couple of months is exacty what T.O. needs. Musical vitamins, if you will.
Well done! |

this was a top notch party in every aspect!! i'm surprised at how quickly Carnivale got accustomed and made changes after only 1 previous party and 1 set of reviews - that is a big plus in my books for promoters. it illustrates that they really care about our experience as a whole and try to work things out to the best of their abilities in the given timeframe and with any limitations present.
carl cox dropped one of my favourite live techno sets ever... not only was it relentlessly hard (a là speedy j, chris liebing hard) but he dropped those oldschool jems that really made the night extra special musically (something vath or danny t would do). add a few acid house tracks and the combination was perfect for this type of party and warehouse venue!
only complains i can even think of (all were mentioned already):
- expensive drink prices!!
- too bright at some points (but the whole warehouse is white so that makes things tough to begin with)
- sound at the back was out a bit (this comes with time and more tweaking)
i can't wait to see what else Carnivale has in store for us! |
