2011 Retrospective / 2012 Plans

It's about time for the annual end-of-year look-back/look-ahead. For those of you who participated in last year's thread, how did you do with respect to your goals? I failed miserably. I got started on my album, got sidetracked by other musical projects, family, job, life, etc. and basically got about 3 songs in various stages of completion for the album. But, I'm still planning on it and hoping to get more serious about it early next year after things calm down a bit at work. I did finish several other songs, have a few releases in the works, including a first for me - a chillout release. So, overall not a bad year, but I'm a little disappointed in myself for not finishing my album. :(

How about you guys? Any big plans for 2012?

Well, i usually hate those retrospectives cause i always seem to fail meeting my goals on time...

I managed to finish my 1st psy EP with few remixes of the guys over here but it is still not out ...

I have quite few projects in the final steps, they are quite good but the hardest step would be getting them out there, it would take a whole lot of time to get all of them signed.

Cryophonik, i want to send you something later on,

I have hoped i would find vocalist by now and actually would have a vocal track going on, but still can't find one...

I'm from oriental background (I'm Arab btw ) , and i really really want to combine oriental elements with electronic dance music, this is my goal for next year...

2011 was a huge down year for me mostly because I ended up changing my sound because I wanted a change, and I tried to top off what I did in 2010. I did think that I became a better producer though. I picked up a lot of confidence even though I didn't really make anything great in particular. Towards the end of the year, I just said "whatever man" and just made songs. My prior approach was to hit home runs when making songs but that took too long, so my approach now is to just jot ideas down fast while finishing the somewhat decent ones as fast as i can.

I already know 2012 will be a great year for me. I have one electronica track that I really want to release; it was my best song of 2010. That song is a blessing in that it's my favorite, but it's also a curse because I am 100% convinced I cannot top it which totally killed my confidence for a very large chunk of the year. Staying consistent has always been my weakness and my goal is to become more prolific. I am really optimistic going into 2012 and I feel I've built a lot of momentum. I bought a Maschine Mikro and that is easily the best purchase I've ever made. I also switched to Ableton, and the workflow using those two definitely helped me a lot.

I do think that it was a good idea for me not to release anything I've made in 2011. I still have a month to go, but I wasn't feeling anything I made this year.

Good luck to everyone, hope your 2012 will be an awesome one. :D

As for the goals, failed terribly. Mostly due to some technical failures and general business.

quote:

plans for 2011:
-continue improving skills, musical knowledge, etc.|| I have succeeded in this area, learnt a lot, but it's never enough.
-spend more time actually producing || Did that, but not as much as I wanted due to technical failures, which happened often. And also burning out.
-focus on getting a release || Yeah, no.
-if possible get some nice equipment || Nothing at all.
-buy a soundcloud account || Not really necessary yet..
-get active here || Failed obviously

Then, 4 days ago, finally fixed the motherboard, and discovered that my primary hard drive is also dead. So I lost everything production related, all gone. It is somewhat distressing, but in a way it's nice to feel fresh and start everything from scratch, and leave all the past problems behind.

Goals for 2012:

- Generally keep improving my skills
- Be on a look out for new sounds/samplebanks, tutorials & things, get to know my own setup even more.
- Explore the music I love, to widen my horizons.
- Finish more tracks than last year, which was 5 tracks.

2011 is where I ditched producing for a while and duely rekindled my dedication (and motivation) to finish my uber ing delayed study. I'll be starting my graduation project soon which will be a music-related online platform. It's a plan I've had for several years now and nobody has even remotely tried what I had in mind (which truly astounds me and shows there is no innovation in the music business whatsoever).

Anyway, I should be graduating and by that time have a solid businessplan for at least 2 new products that do not exist in this format right now and then I should have time to pick up producing again as well as dj-ing.

2 years from now we will see if my plans where golden or a turd in disguise. Time will tell.

-Finish my first track by February, fully mixed and mastered.

-Remix Sean Tyas' "Lift" and have that done by June.

-Start work on my first trance track.

-Try and get a release of said first trance track.

-Just continue to learn and master production.

That sounds very cool! Keep me posted. Assuming that your DJ link is up to date, it looks like you're in Israel??? A friend of mine (Leanna Pareja), who is an actress and also an excellent singer, was just there for 2 weeks. Had I known, you could have been her tour guide! Anyway, to bring things back OT, Leanna and I have a song that is nearly complete and, depending on how her acting schedule goes, we hope to write several more songs in 2012.

One of my goals for this year was to get signed to Subfractal's imprint Frakture Audio. That dream has now become a reality as I will be releasing a two-track EP (plus remixes) on Frakture in the new year. I consider it to be my biggest accomplishment to date!

For 2012, among other things, I hope to:
-release something on Erphun's label Brood Audio
-collaborate with Subfractal
-crack the Beatport Top 100 Techno
-play at least once at each of Toronto's top three clubs (Footwork, Government, and Comfort Zone)
Subtle
2012 Plans..

- Make an album
- Getting signed to Perfecto Records

2010 was a good year business wise, but musically absolutley terrible,

I finished one track (gulp) but thats all I could even muster as my NDA's only expire in 2011. This means I can finally make some music without having to ask for permission as they own it (yes anything I make, even at home, while working for them).

It will be nice to have some freedom in that respect but in fairness I'll miss the work so I gain one thing and lose another.

As for kit. No plans, apart from some much needed mopads and and passive volume control.

My main drive is to really learn my plugs inside out, especially waves fx, and my preferred softsynths. The ultimate goal is to have a very small number of plugs I use devoutly and know seamlessly.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

I could basically type the same thing over again, apart form that the NDA's finally expired a few months ago, but due to my business focus, music has been aggressively neglected.

At least I learnt all my plugs pretty well, and decided against the mopads, but I still haven't bought a passive volume controller.

Resolutions for this year:

- Get passive Volume controller.
- Start and Finish a track within the 2 months of 2012
- Go out clubbing a good few times and hear some new music in a club environment.
- Do some engineering for some of my composer friends.
- Be storyteller's US partner for his online platform.
- Sell online platform to Apple.
- Profit.
- Buy yacht in Bahamas.
- Buy Villa in Tuscany.
- Do a Daft Punk and take 20 of my mates to Vegas to blow $1m in a couple of weeks, before the tax man takes it.

I had no real goals as far as music went, apart from just 'trying new '

At that I believe I succeeded.

It's really more of the same in 2012, as well as moving and finally setting up a real studio with treatment an' .
