i like your idea of having a plan, but i dont agree with this statement

you said previously that if only a group of say 50/100 members were willing to chip in for this party cause they are devoted and interested in seeing a dj, what makes you think that anyone off the street would wanna come see j00f just cause it's your party?
not to knock the guy but j00f's fan base in nyc isent gonna be much more than 100 i can tell you that much

overall tho if say 100 to 150 TA heads are willing to throw in and make a party happen then it will be a good time, cause everyone there would be there for the same reason...TO HEAR GOOD MUSIC :)

never said that anyone off the street would come. my statement was more towards the idea that those members would have friends they could pitch the party to. besides, who said it had to be j00f? obviously, this isn't geared towards one artist or genre. it would be up to everyone to vote consistently on who we'd be bringing.

say it ends up being Arnej we try to bring to the city and we have 50 members. bet you a night like that would spread relatively easily on its own from members giving info out to friends etc., and i'm sure we'd have a few dedicated members who would spread flyers and whatever else.

Things have certainly gone a tad commercial in the US hence why John had been heading to other territories that understand and support him musically. He has a close connection to NY due to his residency at Arc many years ago and is keen to support you guys.
We need more guys like you.

lets make this happen!

Wow! This was a very great post to see! I hope we can make this happen.

Would love to get this off the ground and wanted to provide a few random thoughts I've been thinking about today:

1. I'm not sure we should even really target walk-ups or do much traditional promotion for these. The main reason for this would be to save on the expense - which is a lot when you factor in the time / effort involved. The other would be so that we don't get caught up relying on walk-ups which is a slippery slope to falling back on risk. If people off the street happen to show up nonetheless, hey that's cool - but I still think they would need to pay quite a bit more since the idea is to give a strong incentive for people to support it in advance.

2. Personally I would like to see this come together as a non-profit organization from the start, with all costs very clear and transparent for everyone. I think this would help members to see where their money is going, and in general feel better about paying for it. That said if there is extra money made from walk-ups etc.. I think it would be good if we could give the DJs and organizing team a flat fee for their efforts that we all agree on - and then put the rest towards the next event.

3. In regards to the team itself, I think we can divide most of the work up between a lot of people but ultimately will need one person who has a bit more responsibility with controlling the finances. In general I think that type of thing is best handled by a minimal amount of people or else it's like splitting the check at dinner with your friends where someone always gets screwed..

4. If we start this - I think it's absolutely critical to start very small expecting 50 to 100 people max. Personally I would vote for National Underground or Stay on a Thursday night, which are both great rooms with no bar guarantee (hopefully). Along those lines, we need to start with artists that are as local as possible since once we're looking as flying someone overseas, there's $1,000 plane ticket we can't get around. Off the top of my head some great first bookings would be: J00F, Andrew Bayer & Matt Lange, Soundprank, Randy Boyer, Breakfast, Thomas Datt, Filo & Peri, Shogun, Elevation, and anyone else who is US / Canada based. Arnej is also in Canada as well but I can tell you he's way beyond our budget for anytime soon.

Right now I'd say let's start up a roll call with who would want to support this, either as a member or organizer. If we can shoot for 50 people at $30 each that would give it enough to start, and the more people involved we can get the lower that amount would be.

Is this specifically for Trance? And I am talking about like actual Trance, not filtered that everyone thinks is trance nowadays. I have a load of artists in my head that I would LOVE to get here in NY and help bring real trance back to NY.

I don't think it needs to be for anything in specific per se, just quality talent that would otherwise never get booked. It's sad that there's not more of a home for these guys in New York, and I think that's something we can change.

Here's some backstory on the general idea btw:

definitely not trance specific, but i bet you're not the only one who wants to book certain acts. it should definitely be an NY EDM group

i think brad sums it up and had some excellent points. non-profit is really the only way to go or else you're playing a whole other ballgame. like you said though, some reciprocity for DJs and staff would definitely be in order

you also make a very good point about the finances. one trustworthy person should definitely control that as it would just eliminate potential issues.

i just typed up a whole rant about venues that i decided to erase because i'm simply not in a position to say how things should work. i think i'll leave that up to the more experienced members of the board to shed some insight on how the actual order of booking artists & venues should go.

I have been working with a few people on this privately, just figuring a few things out. We have all the tools to start it though, so ill have good need soon I'm sure.

J00F + DB anyone? 00DB is killer.

as long as there is a proof that this will be straight for the people by the people i would be in!

would love to be a part of this, just tell me when and where and I'd be more than willing to pay the membership/whatever fee. J00F or someone else, I think a party organized by the people for the people, as was said before, would be epic. great to see people with the ganas on this site.

This is a "real" thread so not sure what you mean by that, and.... lets keep all the info together. A new thread is not unnecessary. I can edit any part of this one if need be.
