TOTA's getting almost as boring as Toronto itself, so I'll gladly join in on this one...

Cellphones and cameras, period. Leave 'em at home and just *experience* the night - the fake-smile self-photos, the wobbly vids with horribly distorted CHRCH-CHRCH-CHRCH kicks and multiple OMFG HAVN SUCH A GD TIME!!! texts you send will never do a stellar evening the justice it deserves. I've never been to Berghain, but I love, love, love their strict door policy on these two.

Drunk and/or coked-up, pushy mother******s on the dancefloor, or anyone who disrespects the space of another dancer, period. By and large, a product of clubs not vetting their lineups, imho. If you have something special to offer, you can afford to turn the hurtbag, walking trainwrecks away; tell them to go make a mess and get into fights at the top-40 R&B club down the street where they belong - you'll attract 10x more the crowd who are there for all the right reasons, and they'll stay loyal for longer. I'm out to dance and forget about these mindless, knuckle-dragging retards - I encounter them enough in the daytime.

Broken glass on the dancefloor (always dropped by the aforementioned drunk MFs).

Pylons. If you want to stand around and take up space, do what every good wallflower should do, and hang out on the periphery.

People who bring signs to hold up. We get it, you love the DJ and you desperately crave attention. If you really want people to gawk at you in this manner, get a job wearing a sandwich board at the roadside for some clothing outlet company.

Drummers in small venues. No. Just no. (edit: more accurately, in most venues, unless they're a special hire for the night, have amazing metre, and know when to lay the f*ck out)

*catches breath* That was fun!

I have always been enamoured of Montreal - see the "Getting started" thread for as to why. Sad part is, it's easily been at least 15 years since I've been there - meagre finances, and life taking me other places being the primary causes. I'm long, long overdue for a visit.

Over the years, I've made a number of great friends from Toronto who simply love Montreal. Between Mutek, Piknic Electronik, Bal en Blanc, Stereo, Circus, clubs and restaurants...There is so much here to like for outsiders. I've hosted people from Toronto here maybe 10 times more than they have hosted me in TO. I have to say though that your scene has quite evolved in the past 5 years. It seems that guys like the Platform crew, Carlo lio, The Junkies, to name a few have been doing a stellar job in growing the scene from the ground up.
