Okay so this is probably the biggest n00b question posted here, but can someone PLEASE explain to me in detail the difference between house genres?? Like how can you differentiate between deep/tech/minimal/progressive/ normal house. And is there a genre as deep-tech? My mates and I always have this argument about what we think what genre the song is but in reality we don't know about them :(

All those are just labels...

I can't sleep, so I'll put some subjective exemples :
Deep House:
Slowhouse #3 A2
The third release from the Slowhouse trilogy. It was vinyl only and got really popular ...(worth 200-300$ today!) It was supposed to be a secret, but it's obviously Agnes (Ray Valioso) who did the third release because of the samples used, etc. I think this track reflects perfectly what we can call 'Deep House'.
Tech House:
Lemos - Nice & Clean
The sub genre 'tech house' is too vague to be represent by only one track... but I took this track from Cecille. Very loopy, but with a house groove (!)
Minimal House:
Alka Rex - Mugen Vugen
A very fun track I really liked when I liked 'minimal', released on Montreal's 'Musique Risquée' label.
'Normal' House as you call it:
Tony Lionni - Hypnotize
You could put thousands of exemple for 'Normal House Music'... Here's a really cool new track that came out two weeks ago on Kerri Chandler's label 'Madhouse':

Oh this is anything but a n00b question. It's a lifelong question with often evolving answers. Because it's a naming issue, it's basically about language, and language is about public (or at least industry) consensus. I think some tracks are well into their genres and can be held up for comparison, as meter sticks, while many (the best ones, in my opinion) are on the fence.
"It was like, deep but it was minimal, but it was this techno sound, but it was grooving, like house, really dark stuff, like bouncy? you know? and rolling." ?!?!
And how often do DJs try to tell each other things like "play minimal" or "go housier!" and then be mind boggled by what the other DJ pulls out. Like, dude, is that what you think is minimal or housey? I think anyone who's tried to agree with a stranger on a vibe or genre for the night has had moments of confusion and total misunderstanding.
When Ali and I started playing as a duo, our first order of business was to sit down and establish a precise common language. It took us a year to communicate seamlessly and it was worth every minute invested.
What I would love to see is a few tracks posted at regular intervals, and everyone chiming in to name the genre (genre poll!). It would be interesting even just here on MTLTA at one moment in time... but imagine worldwide and over the span of a decade. Then link that info to where respondents are from and what their current central genre is and which genre they're coming from.
That kind of musicology research excites me, and our scene could surely use it.

To be fair Roman, that is not really true progressive house either, and neither is a lot of the stuff we like ala Sudbeat, Bedrock etc...Listen to the original Renaissance compilation, and the Northern Exposure CDs, and stuff like that, that is real progressive house.
Here's a track that came out recently that Beatport classifies as House but I think is close to what the true essence of prog is
