Hello

I'm just new into makin' music, and I always think in "extreme points": sometimes music that i try to make sounds too "overloaded", sometimes I think it's havin' less sounds and it doesn't sound good at all... so,

how many "layers" of sound should have trance music ??

maybe if someone can group 'em in categories like "pads, pluck, arp, chords..." how many sounds of each one? anyone can help me? i'm a noobie...without much experience.... :(

In general and understand it as sounds playing at the same time during a specific moment:

Kicks: 1-2, sometimes you pick only the tail of a kick to merge it with the body of another.
Snare/Clap: Generally 2
Hats: I use 3, i have heard of some pros using up to 7, uplifting trance generally is overloaded in this sense while other genres like techno usually keep it simpler.
Pads: 1 i rarely see the case where youe need more
Plucks/Arps: 2 on different octaves
Leads/squares/saws etc...: 1 Synth stab complement of the pluck/arp
Bass: 3 (Sub Bass @ 30-50Hz, Mid bass 50-500 and Upper Bass)

In general this is like the common pattern, but you can get a track working with just 1 bass or with 6 hat patterns sounding bright there's no special recipe, just use your ears.

Yours totals 14, and since the correct answer is '10', you're 4 over. Something has to go. I suggest eliminating 1 bass, 1 hat, 1 kick and the pad.

Just a suggestion, of course.

there's no rule. sometimes you may have 5 layers for bass, sometimes 3. if it sounds good with 2 layers leave it with 2.

there isn't a set rule, but if you need ideas then look at the previous posts. But don't add layers for the sake of adding layers, if it doesn't sound right than leave it alone

Why would you have different basses? What's the point of that?
