Speaking of tools

That wont help 1 single bit, if anything it will make you do loads of unnecessary things that will just with your head.

Drum layering is pretty common, as is sequences and arpeggiated parts. Not everything has to be layered, and in my first track, nothing is layered....but then again, my first track is acid house meant to sound like something from the late 80s, so your mileage may vary on the layering thing.

Now for the most important thing brought up in the thread....if you don't understand the "OVER 9000" thing, YOU FAIL AT THE INTERNETS.

One to make a sound, as need it to make a good Trance track, your call, nobody can answer on this question correctly for you.

Thinking in layers is not really helpful. If 3 things sound like one element , consider it one . Now what matters are distinct elements that take space and demand attention.
As a rule, the more elements, the smaller your mix will sound. I wouldn't really say there is a number but keep in mind most people can handle 1-2 elements in terms of attention.

So say 4 layers of different jihad loops, not really gonna do much for you. Prioritize what is important at what time and arrange around that. For dance, I think 1 attention grabbing element is enough and I would only have more once thatfirstelement has been memorized and a second overlapping counterpoint won't be too abrasive.
