yeah seriously. and theres gonna be so much police activity down there with ultra letting out.
any clubs in big cities tend to be in the more industrial areas.. i don't think people should be too worried |
no offense but if you guys have never been there then listen to the people that have many many many times. is there area the worst...no. the area between the water and space isnt that bad. thats where you will encounter the bums. wander off a few blocks west of space and deeper into overtown and find yourself in the middle of the hood. north of space isnt any better either.
Last year when Sunday School, which is located in overtown off of 14th st, we were standing in group talking and a cop came up to us and told us to keep moving because there were reports of people getting held up at gunpoint a couple blocks north of us and the strip of clubs. Tons of cops cars in the area. We walk just south of that area to where are car was parked and sure enough there were more hold ups up the block.
This area has a reputation in miami for a reason. Yea big clubs that stay open late into the next day do well industrial areas, the middle of nowhere, and the hood...all for the same reason. People dont call the cops in the hood or there just isnt someone around to call the cops. You dont get the same kind of complaints that you get on the beach.
Dont be dumb. Keep aware of your surroundings like you should be doing anywhere you are. Stay on the main streets. Be careful and You will be fine and have a blast in the process. |

Minimized our losses after hearing about the Sat show... sold 2 tickets separately at $169 each, leaving just under $40 total profit per ticket. |

At the Ultra after-party a few years ago, it got shut down at 7am and stupid me thought it would be a good idea to walk to hail a cab instead of going with my friends and a certain DJ that already had transportation lined up. BIG MISTAKE. Walked right into the hood, used my phone GPS to try to make it out of the hood. Got yelled at by the hoods and almost got jacked for anything and everything I had on me. Not a good feeling knowing your 10 seconds away from losing it. On the plus side, I did make it safe out of the hood and didn't get taken for my funds. Learned my lesson never to venture out alone again regardless of what frame of mind I am in. |

dude overtown is not what it was 20 years. can happen? sure. but can happen ANYWHERE! you're making it sound like carol city or florida city man. and its NOTHING like that. i wouldnt even drive through those neighborhoods in a ing tank! but i have no problem strolling through a bit of overtown before or after a show.

I get a feeling a lot of people are overblowing the dangerousness of this area. I've never been there so I can't say for sure, but there's clubs in this area so it can't be that bad. |
its one tiny block with a couple clubs and a strip club across the street. the other clubs (vagabond, ice palace, etc) are just randomly scattered. theres basically nothing there except for those club themselves.

somehow i knew you were gonna be the first to reply. when i couldnt find it i was gonna text you for it but then i found it. :toothless
my best bum moment was wmc03. i was heading to space for pvd and totally forgot i had a j in my cig pack and got too scared to bring it in. i had only been to space less than a handful of times before then so when a bum came up to me asking for money i offered him the joint and he was like "aww man, dont you got any xanex or some ?" :stongue: a picky bum when it comes to drugs. awesome. |

HAHAHAHA amazing pic. Miami bums always crack me up. I still say the majority of them look like mutants.
Is overtown carol city or city? no. I would rather people just take precautions. Drunk/high people exhausted from party for several days and dont know miami can be easy prey. You are right though, in all my years of partying at space (summer 2003...maybe it was 2004), I have had very few problems. The occasional aggressive bum, but that has been on random nights in downtown where space wasnt part of the night. But you do seem to hear stories every year about people having problems...cars broken into, muggings, etc. Last year was a little bit of an eye opener for me first hearing about his going on down the street, walking away to avoid it, then seeing it actually happening |
