get the K version of the i5-2500. its only a tad more expensive and while you might not care about overclocking now, you might in 3 or 5 year's time.

How's that combination? |
Make sure you get a SSD for your boot drive/main programs and most used games. |

Make sure you don't get a Macbook because all of the usb ports are on the left side and that is just unacceptable! |

| I usually use pricewatch.com and buy from multiple sites. There is usually one or two cheaper than newegg |

Sensorium, if you live in the USA and have a Microcenter in your area, it's best to buy the Ram, MB & Processor from them (In-Store Deals only, no online shopping deals), Usually about $40-50 less than what Newegg or Tigerdirect is charging. Otherwise, I'd just stick with Newegg.
EDIT: The combo looks good. What are your major uses, though? Any overclocking? |
No major issues.
There's one MC like 30 minutes away. I'll go shopping next week and see what deals I can find. |

i also suggest newegg for sure. and ive had nothing but great experiences with my laptop with the i7 as well as my father's who has a slightly lower clock-speed model of the i7.. can't remember the exact serial #'s. but i can't stress enough how impressed i was with the i7 and i totally suggest it. dunno about the price differences between the i5 and the i7 but if it's not an arm and a leg i'd go for the i7. on my laptop it more than makes up for the fact that my video card is a kinda crappier nvidia card with just a gig of dedicated memory..
it also handles multitasking really well, being able to watch a hi-def movie file without it stuttering (which was a big reason why i went nuts with the processor) while downloading random stuff, browsing the web, and burning dvds or whatever.. no problem. runs a multitude of.. tasks, i guess you could call it, in really any DAW flawlessly too without any hiccups or whatnot. in my experience. |

an i5 or even an i3 can do that no problem...trust me you will not notice a difference with most standard applications or even multi-tasking. plus the i5 he is looking at is a quad-core.
I'd suggest an SSD as a top priority above anything else. make sure to get a 6 GB/s mobo and SSD and you will be flying. With that, an i5 + 6 GB of ram will be plenty, trust me. |

Sure, i'd say the i5 is competent, but I definitely wouldn't waste any money on an i3 (especially since the i3 and i5 are similarly priced). Some of the i3's aren't even true quadcore processors.. that noise. |
