Finally had a chance to write up a review for this amazing night.
So let's get started shall we?
I got there with my buddy around 10:15, parked and decided to hit up the gas station for some drinks and whatever. Went back still no line so we waited in the car for a bit. While we were in the car talking, we noticed Tim Grube and Mike Hovsepian from Grube & Hovsepian walking by. But wait, they had one really tall guy with them...Lo and behold it was Arnej himself. So far so good.
We decided to get in line and when we looked there was a massive line already forming close to 10:45 or so. Now usually I get there nice and early and never wait. I noticed while standing in line that folks were there for Markus. A good sign of things to come, since a lot of times I have to explain to people who it is I am seeing that night. One weird thing about the night is that they were patting down everyone, which I have never seen at Space but then again I think it's only my 5th time going. Whatever, no problems getting in.
We walked up to the loft and chilled listening to techno and hanging out near the entrance to the Terrace which I had confirmed was going to open at midnight. While there Javi walked up and we all waited together for the door to open.
Right at midnight it slid open and we walked in to Markus already starting the party. From what I could see it was Markus with his wife, Tim Grube, Mike Hovsepian, Arnej, and Kaeno. Balloons were decorating the perimeter of the dj booth and Markus was just laying down some warm-up beats so everyone had time to get in and pack the place before he wrecked the place.
Once the place got nice and full he started dropping bombs one after another. His mixing was flawless and with every song he brought more and more energy as the night went on. I remember looking in the VIP area beside the booth and seeing Grube, Hovsepian, Arnej, and Kaeno just going crazy dancing. At one point Space brought out a cake with flares and Markus was trying to blow them out but eventually gave up after 2-3 tries. Haha. He played from 12-5:45, I stayed on the floor for most of it but unfortunately my bladder couldn't take it any longer and I had to go to the little boys room about 4.5 hours in.
Overall: He played very little vocals maybe 5-6 the entire set. The ones he played were quality and not stuff you hear a billion times. I don't think any cheesy songs were played either. Deep, dark, bass thumping trance from start to finish.
To top it off my buddy and I were leaving and as I turned to talk to him, who was right behind us? Markus, his wife, and a few others. We thanked him for the awesome night, he thanked us back and told us thanks for coming out. What a guy! I have met him every time I see him in Space and he is always very friendly and talkative. It was a night I won't soon forget.
I've posted some vids for you guys. Check them out.

First time seeing him? Either way I've seen him 3 times so far in the last year and he has never disappointed. |

Anyone else think that the train horn thing that's located in the DJ booth on the terrace is annoying as !? I seriously think that thing ruins tracks completely when the DJ tugs on it... I would've thought Markus would agree, but apparently I was wrong.
Aside from that, I didn't get in until 1:10AM even though I got in line at 11:30PM. I also had to pay an extra $10 charge, even though I talked to multiple members of Space's staff that assured me I would not have to pay anything because I got there early. I missed the first hour+ of Markus's set, but as soon as I got in there, the party was already going wild. His track selection was good... fair amount of repeat tracks from the past few marathon sets I've attended but at least they were good ones.
Some random tracks I remember:
Aerofoil - Caress to Impress
Aerofoil - Vortex
Marcel Woods - Advanced (remix not sure)
Iio - Rapture (Markus mashup that he's been playing lately)
Kevin Focus - Stuck 7
+ many more that I can't think of right now
Overall a decent night but not pleased that I missed the first hour and had to pay extra to get in... which could've been prevented if the Space employees were under better management and the lines were actually organized (I've been to Space numerous times and this time felt like it was definitely the most unorganized out of all the times). |

Wow what a night! So many massive tunes played. No cheese, yet everything had even the more mainstream people engaged and groovin. I saw the VIP areas full and rocking out and the dance floor was full and bouncing the whole time.
Anyone else notice that he played Dakota- Terrace 5AM at EXACTLY 5am?? Awesome moment.
I brought a bunch of friends with me again this time. Many of them who experienced Markus for the first time last year and have been waiting for him to return to Space. I can't wait till WMC. I think I am just going to set up a tent in the parking lot and just stay there the entire week. |
