| I remember a Sound on Sound feature saying that Autechre used Digital Performer, back in 2004 or something. But who knows whether what those magazines say about gear is true. |

yeah ,
i mean there is no point using so many DAWs except when you are given project files in that format. Most of the time, it is just name dropping. Especially in EDM.
like people that say ya i use logic and cubase and prosonus. Makes no sense. Ableton , i undertstand , but like sometimes reading the interviews, i mean it is all bull. |

Reaper 4. Started with 3.7ish since it was a few Hundred less than the big names and I had to start somewhere. There are really just two things that could be considered 'lacking'. One is pretty GUIs for the included FX/programs which are otherwise fantastic and extremely useful...and the other is spotty, support for controllers.
From a purely DAW standpoint, I like it, it's powerful and highly configurable. Since it's my one and only, I can't compare it to others other than to say it's specs are on par with the top dogs like Logic/PT/Cubase. It has a great forum and the company is highly responsive overall to customer input with regular FREE updates and bug fixes.
For the price, you cannot go wrong. |

This.
Cubase is more capable in many ways, but Live is brilliant when working with loops. |

| I used to do that but not being able to use certain Ableton functions pissed me off. |

Reaper is quite brilliant. The only problem I have with it, is how you have to drag to insert notes in the piano roll. Makes that process slower than in other programs. Other than that it's really well programmed and powerful software.
But I guess that's just a matter of what you're used to. |

| I use Cubase with Ableton as a slave also, although I recently upgraded my system to Cubase 6 64bit and rewire won't be available until one of the future updates which is a bit annoying! |

Maybe we'll get lucky and they update that and make it 2-way audio, in my dreams... |
