lack of rewire's a deal breaker for me

Seems definitely like a nice toy.

Imo a good move would be to offer the first version for free. It'd be a great promotional trick that would draw tons of attention at it.

The thing is finally out! They've uploaded some great teasers on their yt channel.

Initial thoughts after an hour of playing around...

THE BAD

I've crashed the audio engine a few times already. Stability is not great.

CPU usage is 10-15% higher than Ableton.

Memory usage is more than double Ableton.

Lots of (important) buttons are way too small.

It looks like everything is written in Java ( :wtf: ), except for the realtime bits that live in a separate process. Subsequently...

- It will always use a load of RAM (I'm getting about half a gig on idle).
- The UI will always be kind of sluggish (all Java UI frameworks are very heavy).
- Retina support will probably never happen.

My guess is memory consumption and UI speed will probably improve if they start developing against Oracle Java on Mac instead of the ty Apple version, which is actually no longer actively maintained!

THE GOOD

Containers are ing amazeballs. I've only used the M/S container so far, but that blew my mindgrapes; I've bought a lot of plugins purely for M/S support and this made them redundant.

Mixing mode is awesome. A nice change from the terrible metering in Ableton.

Split clip/arrange view is even more awesome than expected.

Lot's of really innovative ideas, but I don't think I'll be switching to it.

Just glancing over the comments at KVR, Bitwig seems like a big 'ol crashfest for a lot of people. How the hell can a DAW that has taken this long to come to market and go through such a lengthy beta process be so unstable?

i'm already sold but it's gonna be a couple years till I dive in, and it'll be on a linux machine

It must be a ing mare to get a DAW stable on the zillion different configurations out there

Just tried the demo and I'm sold. The arrange window feels intuitive and deep. The color palette on the right is very easy to sort instead of right clicking or menu dragging like in logic. The whole process of making a track feels fun, reminds of the sequencer in that old playstation 1 game where you can make dance music, the memories. Its absolutely stable for me and I'm on mac so memory usage is not a problem. My 02.

Before I didn't take this company and daw seriously so totally ignored the thread, my regrets.

Ok Paulino, make us dream now with some crazy trance banger.
