this is really sad, the guy made some of the most epic tunes of the great sasha digweed era...

Its sad to believe such talented producer just left us like this.
Slacker has always been one of my favorite remixer for me together with Way Out West, Commie and Breeder back in the late 90s early 20s
Rest In Peace!

I wonder if he killed himself? check out this blog from his producer and friend in bangkok simon henderson http://simonhenderson.com/

Sadly today I learned that a mate of mine, Shem McCauley, passed away over the weekend! I mixed his last album with him in my studio in Bangkok called “Start a new life”. See my old post Slacker (Shem’s stage name)
As I understand it he made arrangements with 2 of my close friends to carry out his last wishes which were to make as little fuss as possible, so there is not much detail about what happened and why, Shem was meticulous with everything about the recording and it seems even his own death also came under his ever critical eye.
So I am not making a fuss! but I wish to celebrate the life of a fellow artist starting with a video of one of the tracks from the album we mixed together. I put more details about Shem which I have copied from his You Tube for more of a background of him. The picture above is a picture taken in my studio, the last time I saw him we were creating, so I will take that memory with me
RIP my friend! On to that Jukebox in the sky!
Shem’s message to his friends: -
“Love to all my other friends in Bangkok please, have a few drinks for me, remember me warmly, then get on quick: know I am living it large in a new place, or dead and free from all the over-thinking and not-enoughness, somewhere similar.”
So clearly a suicide then. Good on him I guess. Not so much for us.
Every version of that track is beautiful. That one fits the mood.

Is he the same person who created that Rolling Mix for Ascension's "Someone?"

If it was a suicide, I'm more comfortable with that then an accidental OD where he wasnt ready to go.
If someone wants to go out on their own terms, its their decision. I still respect the man fully. Nothing will change that.
That note that he left above seems to indicate a struggle with depression which I can personally relate to as it runs in my family, and it can be relentless at times. He had to be a genius on some level to accomplish what he did. I'm going to dig up my "Turning To Air" 12 inch as a big ups to the man, hope he receives my message in whatever dimension he now resides in.
