This is a wonderful timeline concept! The funny thing is I can even see myself inside. I got into Trance at 1h14 and stopped listening to it at 1h28. :D
Now I'm listening to Goa what is imho the purest form of Electronic "Trance Dance" Music out there. :tongue2
Spacey Orange
sorry you dont get a pass. tl please. cheers.

Was quite interesting , the first 30 minutes is what i loved to hear, i am a bit unsure if playing overused classics like Gamemaster, C# ,Out of the blue etc... was a good idea but the set flows very well, some breakdowns from time to time wouldn't have hurt , 2 mins of break every 5 minutes is way to excessive sadly but every 15 minutes a beatless section suits.

I was also curious about the end of the set, i don't know that recent tracks but i expected some real jewels, a bit disappointed with this, they were anjunabeats worthy.

I really hope there's one of either Eurodance or Eurobeat / Para Para. Surely the latter is the purest form of cheesy happiness. :D

Interesting, but Castles In The Sky? Really???

I've only listened to about halfway through, chances are it'll taper off to trance I hate. I really like the timeline aspect to this mix and look forward to other genre mixes.

BTW does anyone know the track at the 40:00 mark:conf:

Thanks, I actually can't believe I forgot the name. I haven't heard that song in a while.

Ooh, forgot about this thread. That happens sometimes when I post in forums like once or twice a year. But the mix is making noise on soundcloud and it reminded me. In the interim, made this:

Why? ...because I ing love history, that's why.

I just listened to this mix again, for the first time since I uploaded it. Easier to spot flaws when reviewing something with fresh ears, and I think the biggest knock against it is its trying to be too many things, and it changed directions halfway through. Like a bad George Lucas movie.

Initially it was going to be a "pure" trance mix -- long, repetitive synth lines intertwining and building tension and release, like trance should be. Halfway through for some reason I got the idea that it could be a 20 year history of trance as well, and I think that's where it fell apart, especially with the rapid "speed mixing" in the second half.

This is really two different concept mixes shoehorned together. I may break it apart and try to rebuild each mix separately, one of pure classic trance, the other of trance anthems without the anthems (or breakdowns).

I still think that technique has merit, but it was hampered by two limitations:

1) I know almost NOTHING about popular trance music from about 03-10. I simply don't listen to the stuff. Except for the Yahel track, the last 5-10 records I had never heard before I made this mix. I literally pulled them off ASOT compilations right before mixing them to try and give the mix some sort of current/contemporary finale. It shows -- there's an unimaginative, rushed esthetic there. That's one of the cardinal rules about DJing: Know your tracks. Know them very well.

2) Modern trance is almost completely unmashupable. It's just too busy, too full, too much crap filling every frequency. A lot of audio engineering has to go into making a track gel with another, and that's what's so infuriating about today's mixing: It's like the producers don't want you to mix tracks together to create a new, conceptualized whole, and if that's the case, then what do we worship DJs for? They're glorified stereos, nothing more.

The first half is definitely stronger. Things get messy when it moves into the anthem era and it feels like I'm forcing every track off the decks in a desperate attempt to avoid the impending breakdowns. And...ugh, Suburban Train. I ing hate that transition. It just wouldn't flow into Active Sight properly, and I got frustrated and just slammed it.

This mix has a lot going on in it. It uses 44 tracks which may be impressive but at the same time that only means there's a larger propensity for error. But which would you rather have: 44 tracks mashed up and edited and looped into something original, albeit with flaws, or 8-10 tracks boringly stitched together? There are 50 other mixes on this very page that accomplish that... go listen to them if that's your speed.

Then again, I am not a producer or a DJ, and I do this very seldom. But it was an idea I had been kicking around for a long time, and the attempt was well worth it. I know how I can improve it, and I will do just that someday. But I'm currently busy with other stuff.

As with all things I do, my ambition always exceeds my achievement.

Tracklist forthcoming.
