yep, felt just like his Summer Stage parties in NYC 5+ years ago.

I thought PVD played a great set and as I looked around the place I thought everyone around me was having the time of their lives. Then again, we were there with a big group LOL

The worst parts of the night were the staff of the venue. We got there before 10am, as Austin Leeds was coming on at 10, and we didn't get in until 11:30pm. We were one of the first people in line. They didn't have a damn thing set up outside, no tables, signs, gates/ropes, nothing. We got the privilege to watch them basically set the venue up for an hour and a half. We have had tickets for weeks and it would have been nice if they had started preparing more than 2 hours before the show.

#2 bad thing for the night - OMG the obnoxious bouncer/security guy that looked like an ex-NY cop. During Sean Tyas he was in the middle of the crowd in a grey t-shirt trying to blend in. He looked like he wanted to beat us to death. It was really hard for me to have any bad feelings at the time, but I remember looking over at him and knowing he was bad news. He was also glowering at us while we were in line. I didn't like that guy.

Cosmic Gate started out soft and next thing I knew they were playing their typical festival set. It was weird for the circumstance, and Austin Leeds had been very chill and soft, so I didn't know how to react. LOL

PVD didn't let us go. I know trance fans are complaining about his set, but I never expect a trance set when I see PVD. I don't know what to say about PVD. There was so much energy and electricity in the crowd that it was a hard downer at so many people leaving before Tyas came on. It would have been great to be in a larger crowd during that set. I was glad Sean Tyas was there, to end the night with some good trance.

I had a killer night. Being at Space the night before was awesome, too.

Hey - I wrote the following for Elektrodaily.com but with every thing going on during that week it never got posted:

For years, one man sat on top of the trance world as the number one DJ. He has topped every known chart, worked with hundreds of artists and won numerous awards. As he embarks on his new tour, Paul Van Dyk is a man with nothing to prove.

In the appropriately named album and tour “Evolution” he demonstrates exactly why he is still one of the top 10 DJ’s in the world, a title he has held since 1998! Other DJ/Producers have evolved by exploring new sounds and have become either jacks of all trades or shadows of their former selves. The evolution of Paul Van Dyk's sound was not into something contrived or commercial, but rather a total immersion into what he does better than anyone else. The man with nothing to prove proved that he is still trance’s reigning master.

The set began with a remixed version of “Time of our Lives.” As the track began to crescendo everyone expected the bass to drop, but I am 100% certain not a single person had any idea what was really about to happen. Hands were in the air. We were front and center. PvD looked over the crowd and produced one of the most devilish smiles I have ever seen. That is the moment he unleashed an unforgiving barrage of high energy, extremely hard yet melodic and uplifting trance that didn’t let up for a single moment. Everyone in attendance had a collective WTF moment. I don’t think anyone expected how hard and loud this journey was going be, but we all held on and didn’t let go. The set included Under World’s “Born Slippy”, Tritonal’s “Still with me” and his new track “Verano”.

Ice Palace is a remarkable venue, both grand and intimate at the same time. PvD was able to interact with the crowd in a way that few other venues could allow. The defining moment of the night for me was hearing “Eternity” for the first time. Paul delivered his master piece. Friends reached out to the friends. Loved ones held each other tighter. Everyone danced! It was truly a moving experience and everyone felt it. My trip to Miami could have ended there, nothing was going to or did top that moment for me.

As I fly back to NYC and reflect on this past week, I think a key take-away is that “evolution” doesn’t have to equate to selling one’s soul or becoming something completely different. Paul van Dyk has showed us that true growth and evolution comes from becoming better versions of ourselves… masters of our domain.

No offense - I'm a big PVD fan myself, but this sounds like it was written by PVD's publicist. LOL

You're the second person who said that!!! I'm far from it... The first PvD set I ever heard was in 1999. I've been a true fan since 2000 and saw him live for the first time at Guvernment in 2001. I saw him three more times that same year at Twilo, Nation and Giant. I wrote that piece for an online (now print) magazine. I guess it's a little over the top, but I'll take your comment as a compliment.
Check out my story on Boys Noize... you'll see that my writing style is fairly consistent. http://www.elektrodaily.com/news/20...-webster-hall/. I don't get paid to write these either...

True PVD fans know that was a crock of set and event.

+2, i was very unimpressed compared to anything I had heard from him since 2010. Mind you I saw him 16 times in 2011 and was pleased with all of those sets and even saw him 4 times this year already before this show in 2012

I thought that no true thought went into the set, didnt play the best track of his new album Dae yor.... was missing a lot of his better remixes from his new album and the set overall had no flow

the highlights of the night were some dark techy remix of kaskades move for me and Paul van Dyk feat. Caligola - If You Want My Love (Club Mix)

The vibe was missing from the event, completely! No flow and direction is also correct, let me down a lot. I think I have complained enough though.
