More Doctors 'Fire' Vaccine Refusers: Good riddance or bad practice?

"Pediatricians fed up with parents who refuse to vaccinate their children out of concern it can cause autism or other problems increasingly are "firing" such families from their practices, raising questions about a doctor's responsibility to these patients."
[Audio Version]
(More information on the link and on the sound file above) I think it's fair: there's no point in going to the doctor and refusing to follow the indicated treatment, only to come back later and potentially infect other patients who are following the right procedures but may be not completely immunised (due to extremely young age, for example).
What do you reckon? Is there any argument FOR treating these people? |

I see not a link+sound file but a window into the main page! Piss and porcupines - you've created a wormhole!

| Most certainly fair. Go find a quack who'll support your uninformed, bull opinions. |

why wouldn't they just be stoked that these ppls kids are gonna be getting diseases that they (the doctors) will make money from treating.
sounds like a good deal to me. if i were a doctor, the patients that took the worst care of themselves would be my VIP's

Because, business wise, you could be held accountable or responsible for a treatment gone wrong... even if it was not followed carefully.
Health wise, because it could infect other patients, specially small children.
And because it must suck to see innocent children die because of tin-foil wearing parents. |

I think we all know that children need to be vaccinated and what not.
Not sure if it's a good move or bad move for doctors to drop non-compliant patients... But for example in a few countries doctors don't treat diabetics that don't take their insulin/blood sugar pills (AKA non-compliant diabetics).
No liver transplants for alcoholics, no Dialysis for drug users, no heart transplants for people who force themselves to puke their brains out. etc
This issue is usually a hippy/all-natural debate. Ya, fight the system, just don't blame the health system when your kid dies of a cold after their mother's immune system stops protecting them. |
