Gas prices... (pg. 4)

although I wouldn't disagree that the industrial revolution and population growth has caused a disruption in our food, but I think scientific advancements have also been able to identify many more things wrong with our diets that were previously simply unknown

If you think about what people ate 200, or even 500 to 1000 years ago, would you say that it was THAT much more healthy for you? Granted there are lazy careless people eating fast food every day, but thats a small percentage in terms of 6+ billion people

People are living longer than ever before, perhaps we are just able to identify problems like colon cancer or other health problems much more efficiently thus making it appear that more and more people are unhealthy. Previously, these sicknesses just went undetected.

Its true once societies become more industrialized, there is a rise in red meat consumption among other things, but there are many other foods that have become accessible that have extreme health benifits should you choose to be concious of one's diet.

To me, its similiar in the way that psychologist have now found so many "disorders" that now require a pill. People made it fine for generations without such diagnosis or remedies, and I doubt that these "disorders" are a thing of the last few generations. We are just more able to "identify" them(or make them up from common symptoms for profit) but these symptons are nothing new.

Im under the assumption that genetic engineers can produce much higher quality food these days. Yes there are things in our food that can cause cancer if not taken in moderation, but lets not forget that standing outside in the sun or in a tanning booth can do this as well.

ps. i know little about the subject, but just my two cents

:D

did I mention how much I love the health concious food critic (vegitarian/vegan) preaching and talking down on quality of US foods or the danger of meat with his friends while smoking a cigerette and drinking a beer?
