Suggestions for a 'special' dynamics VST.

I'm not sure what I want actualy exists in software.
So far in terms of dynamics (compressors) I have TRACS Deluxe and the full SSL range.
Whilst both are quite nice, I'm looking for something more, somtheing that adds an artisan special quality to bass, in paricular the very low end.
Budget £150 (possibly more) for a sinlge product (does not have to be a suite of products like TRACS or the SSL bundle).
Anyway, if you had £150 or so for any individual processor, something you might consider the creme dela creme of compressors, what would you go for?
I tried Cytomic the glue, mmm, ok, nothing that great.
Max Bass (or is it R Bass) won't do it. |

Maxx Bass and R Bass are 2 different plugins, they introduce harmonics there not compressors.
You looking for something to colour the sound?
The PSP vintage warmers colours a sound, but maybe you should try subtle saturation and see if you can get the result your after. |

I guess I am looking for colouration and compression. I have the TRACS Pulteq and Fairchild, they're so so.
I was wondering if people have experience of these models on low bass;
Elysia Alpha compressor or mpressor
Bluetubes (Nomad factory)
Tubetech CLB1 (I understand this was in powercore, but I never heard anyone rave about it)
Sonnox - is all old hat now? |

| you are looking for a saturation plugin. Try the FF MB distortion. |

| I use blue tubes eq's frequently to boost the mids (just by a dB or 2), it adds some great presence overall. |

The Glue is not designed as a bass compressor - it's an emulation of the SSL buss compressor and its primary purpose is to glue mixes/submixes together, not as a bass enhancer. This leads me to wonder if you just need to get a better handle on the compressors that you have now before continuing your seemingly unending chase for the perfect kick/bass.
But, that said, I find any of the Waves Renaissance compressors to work very nicely on synth basses. Another plugin to try is the new FabFilter Saturn - it's a multiband saturation/distortion, but it also does compression and bass enhancement. Fully functional, 30-day no restriction demo available on their website.
Edit: just realized that L4C recommended the Saturn plugin above already. |

have you tried splitting your bass into multi bands and applying artifact inducing fx ie bitcrushing, disortion and even doubling your bass with noise ran thru a cab or with bitcrushing as well.
honestly., this isn't a mixing thing but a sound design thing. Listen to the stuff you like and try to hear what they have that yours doesn't. |
