Some people rag on it, but I find it pretty educational. There are definitely worse ways to kill an hour. The JJP Dave Way and Alan Meyerson episodes are also really informative. Well they all are really, just some more than others.

The one I've been waiting for since Meyerson has done it is CLA. I'm starting to wonder why DP hasn't had him on yet. I'd think he has to be pretty highly requested.

Deadmau5 production wise is great but i don't feel this is a perfect kick at all, he has done better
This feels much better for me for example:

Kick/Snare/Hat combination is flawless but i think it depends a lot on your personal tastes.
Another commercial releases that i've found that have nice kicks is LMFAO - Party Rock and Avicii - Levels but i'd go for any W&W, Marcel Woods, Prydz... kick if you want to kill a big room venue. |

The mid knock on the kick is pretty good.
Anyone know how to synthesize something like this? |

anyways
best kick and snare
ACDC back in black
One of my favorite drum sounds is 99 problems. Love those drums.
Any recording with jeff porcaro from the 70s. Those were fat drums. |

i like the snare, the kick is matched but for example would suck in EDM which most of us specialize in.
how did they record it which makes it sound different? i believe it says no compression on the drums were used

i guess just a good source huh? |

Starting to get a bit off topic but I remember reading one of Stav's recent articles on keeping dynamics within this brickwall world. He briefly wrote about a well known method of increasing the loudness of the drums when recording without resorting to compression. His point was that the amount of space between the mics and skins is as important as the choice of mics themselves, and that having more air between the mic and skin helps to absorb the transients naturally which in turn can make the drums louder even when they're sunk back in the mix. |
