i'm no business guru, but i am a genius, so in a way , i am a business guru. The thing is that getting people to use Ilok makes it more natural and when something is more natural, you buy more. So lets say, a bunch of free plugins convinces people to get an ilok because they say , it , i might need it eventually. Now you have the ability to buy anything and use it which is far more tempting than say, well compare it to download software compared to mail software. Download stuff is way more impulsive, you know you can use it know.
As well, they will sell this eventually as they do with the Devil-loc which they also gave for free about a year ago. And i just checked the website, they charge 129 for it. So ya, it really isn't a bad deal.
Just tried this out, it is really nice. A really nice smooth saturation plugin that is kind alike the waves tape plugin well at least when you use that as a saturation device by cranking the input. Can't believe this is 32 bit tho. |

That was my first thought and I've been waiting for a moment to go into rant mode, so here goes. WTF, Sound Toys?! You've been telling us that "you're working on it" for a friggin year now and, instead of just getting it done, you add another 32-bit plugin to the pile?!
Aaaaarrgggghhhh!!!! :whip:
OK, much better now. :)
As for iLok, it will be interesting to see what sort of ripple effect, if any, the release of Waves v9 has on other developers' use of iLok. Waves v9 is expected within the next few days and they have announced that they are dropping iLok. |

what i can't stand is how they limit it to 1 computer. 2 computer setups is common enough that they should have some sort of extra you pay, not double. That is ing ridiculous. And some companies, ie EAST WEST won't even let you transfer to another ilock key, so say you wanted to reorganize which key has what as you are using multiple computers, well guess what , you can't. Honestly, the amount of people that would abuse what ever whole there is , well the person getting a free copy was never gonna pay. I hate that sort of nonsense. I mean that is just idiocy. There is being careful , and then there is being an idiot. Everyone is just waiting so that you can have 2 licenses and then they are all goign to sell them on ebay despite the fact the key is in your name. Yup, big money there.
It isn't dongles so much, it is the fact that the dongle limits usage that is legit. They should realize only 1% of people will abuse it , so what are they gaining financially ? Oh and the 25 transfer fee ? What the . A software process that takes seconds, and they charge like its the ing bank. But the bank at least had a precedence for most of their charges because people used to pay it so they don't mind. Like how banks don't work on the weekends ? The computers need to sleep right ? nothing to do with making more money. The computers have the weekend off so any activity will only be shown on monday. |
