martin, what you call 'my opinion' is what a lot (but not all) of others interpret as fact. i am not personally claiming it to be fact, but these are objective observations i have made, as a fan of stereo. nothing more.
stereo simply did not push their dj mag promo this year AS MUCH AS THEY HAVE IN PREVIOUS YEARS. period. circus had banners, created so many friggin' ads for it, i unliked them specifically because my newsfeed was FLOODED with stupid invites inviting me to vote vote vote! for them. not to mention the countless event invites, too. i was getting so many random friend requests from people with the word "circus" in their name. it got so annoying, and it is not necessary to go to those annoying lengths to acquire votes. it works, but it is annoying as .
sure, stereo did post quite a bit on FB, trying to get votes, but circus' determination/efforts/promo tactics far outweighed stereo's this year. if you can't see that, you are blind man. i even asked maher what the club was doing to enhance their dj mag promo...if i have to ask him, it clearly means i am not seeing it myself, on my own.
it became very clear to me that this year, circus simply CARED A LOT MORE about their ranking in this poll than stereo did. that's all.
and also i am speaking as a FAN/CLIENT here, not as a DJ, manager, agent, employee, maher's girlfriend, whatever...
...my opinion (& i think it could be a fact also) is that neither circus NOR stereo is the 19th best club in the entire universe. period. |

I'm just shocked Stereo didn't make the list at all. I personally prefer the bookings, the sound system, and the vibe at Stereo.
Props to Circus, they definitely market the club right and have built up a nice following of younger fans who are loyal. Seems the crowd is more mature at Stereo; they spent less time on facebook, they voted less. Thats my theory.

Circus spammed the hell out of the DJ Mag poll, so good for them for getting such a high result. Those guys spent the money on a new soundsystem and they murder Facebook with their events/promo and the results show.

That's crazy talk. I would say Maison in Toronto, with a Funktion One as well is better than Circus. Only difference is Maison is a bar hours club.
Guvernment has been around for 15+ years and their long weekend parties cannot be touched. |

I liked CuZo in TO but even La Folie or MP3 or whatever it's called is bigger and nicer than that
Circus is great for diverse bookings, I've heard Stereo type beats there, techno, decent trance, etc. Only issue I have is the sound system is too piercing at times. Hot chicks there too ;)
Stereo is a beautiful club, immaculate and has that one-ness vibe about it. Love the set up, the auditorium-like look to it. Montreal is lucky it isn't Toronto :p |
